Still waiting for him to bring back that "dominant Chiefs defense" he promised, oh, what, four years ago?

Whose he going to blame this year, two years after acquiring every player on his "list of players" to turn the chiefs D around?

I'm beginning to think Gunther is the Carl Peterson of defensive coordinators.

This whole staff needs to be canned if Herm is coming back...

That sums it up perfectly. It's sad -- it was so predictable. The only brainpower in the whole organization was Vermeil - Saunders - Solari collectively running the offense. Now there is nothing. No one in the entire organization brings a god damn thing to the table now. No one.

I would really like to see them start fresh, with some fresh young minds. I hate to say it, but admire what Al Davis did in hiring his new coach. Pull a talented GM understudy in here, and have a whole new regime.

Yeah. I think the "revamped" Chiefs defense has been a little bit of an urban myth, Mr. Chiefnj2. When you watch the games, you realize that our success is very dependent on great play by JA and two of our linebackers (DT and DE). Other than that, we're pretty inconsistent.

The masochist in me looked up some other data:

- yards per reception (given up) 11.9. (Same as 2005).

And here's the kicker:
points per game - 2005 was 20.3, 2007 is presently 20.8.

You know what, that's a damn good point. That would explain why our drafts were nearly complete busts every year for ten years. Maybe we've never had a coaching staff that was actually able to develop them and make them better. That's sad and pathetic if it's true.

Absolutely. Our "player development" efforts appear to be practically non-existent. From time to time, that problem seems to emerge in the media, then it goes away again. It's one of the elephants in the room nobody seems to want to talk about.

I firmly believe that a major factor in our historical draft problems is the lack of any meaningful player development program. Honestly, if a guy doesn't walk in the door with stellar talent and/or personal commitment, he's likely to get no better with the Chiefs.
