High Customers? UPDATE

Update: To whom it may concern. The customer that was the subject of this thread did come back today, and seemed to not be under the influence of a controlled substance. Interesting enough, I had a customer earlier this morning pay for his car and he was high as a kite, and paid his $1600 dollar bill all in 20's which he handed to me wrapped in a rubber band. How cliche is that?

Recently at the Shop that I work at, we have had the pleasure of dealing with many customers stinking of marijuana. Well this afternoon, an Impala pulls up in front of our first bay, windows all tinted out, and it sits there for about 5-10 minutes. Well I go to get an order on a vehicle and the person rolls the window down accompanied by billows and billows of marijuana smoke rolling straight down my nasal passages, so much so I thought I was going to suffocate. Well he asks if we give free transmission checks and I say we do, and he says "ok I will take one of those", he was obviously either not to smart or just a little to under the influence. Well I tell him I need to see if I have someone to test drive it, and I did not at that particular time. So I go back out to him and he rolls the window down, and thats when he shocked me, he actually just started smoking the blunt right in front of me and blowing his smoke pretty much straight into my face. So I told him he could stop by in the morning and we could spin it.

Well in my situation, what would you have done (all in hypotheticals). My brother says "oh you shouldn't let them smoke weed in the parking lot", but how was I too know what they were doing if I couldn't see them? Should I of called the police when I became aware of their use of a controlled substance. Personally I said no, because I really would fear the reprocussions of this in the area we are located. Boy oh boy did I inhale a lot of that smoke, my head is pounding. It was really unbelieveable. Usually you find weed pieces scattered throughout customers cars but never have they been so blunt as to demonstrate the proper way to smoke marijuana.

I'm not proud of it but i've driven whilst drunk, driven whilst high on weed and driven whilst smashed on ecstasy.

I would say weed is by far the safest one of those three.

I'm an advocate of decriminalization of marijuana and pretty much any other intoxicant. Treat 'em like alcohol. Legalize it all, tax it, and get rid of the profit motive that drives the black market and the violence that comes with it. The war on drugs is as stupid as the 18th amendment was, and has the same problems magnified.

My only problem is with idiots who get behind the wheel when they are drunk, high, or otherwise altered.

When you have someone you loved killed by an idiot that had been drinking (but still blew "under" the limit) and was stoned, then you come talk to me about how ridiculous DUI/DWI laws are. I'm just happy they drug tested the asshole and confirmed he'd been using and nailed him on DUI, possession, and vehicular homicide.

I won't apologize for my disgust and hatred of those idiots. AFAICS, every time they get behind the wheel f*ucked up, they are saying that getting high/drunk/whatever is more important than the safety of everyone else they share the road with. That's as selfish as it gets, IMO.

Agreed. That said, contracting gonorrhea is better than getting herpes, which is better than getting AIDS. Doesn't really make any of them a good thing though.

Heh. You're not really helping your case, but I would have to say It would be a no brainer to agree. BTW don't do that shit anymore. I drove messed up the other night, which I have not done in years, and I really regret it. Nothing bad happened at all. I made it home completely safe, but I still feel like a dumbass piece of shit. I did endanger other people, and as bad as it sounds I'm even more pissed that I risked My ass out there on the road. I've worked hard to get where I am, and a DUI, or Vehicular manslaughter would go all long way toward flushing all of that, and ridlling my life with guilt, and self hate.

Stay off the road. For our sake, and for yours. I promise I will.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm against turning someone into the police for smoking pot - no matter where they're doing it.

Too many people have already had their lives sorely interrupted (if not entirely ruined) merely because they were caught with weed that later found its way from the evidence room to some cop's house.

Yeah. It's some pot. Big deal. They probably would retaliate on the spot, because if it was low level possession they probably wouldn't have even gone to jail.

This is the solution. Just tell him straight up you don't wanna see it.

Eh, as someone who's done all three of those as well, I'd have to disagree.

It varies from person to person, and I only drink nowadays, but I definately felt more comfortable behind the wheel drunk than I did stoned or on ecstacy. None of them are very good decisions, but I don't buy the whole "stoners are just fine drivers". I'm sure people who smoke pot religiously have a pretty high tolerance and believe they can operate a motor vehicle just the same because it's second nature to be high, but that's just not true.

And I'm sure the alcoholic feels the exact same way.

The problem is, taking a piss test just tells if marijuana is in the system, not if they were high at the time of an accident. There's no real way that I know of to peg someone who is high.

In addition, people who are "conditioned" to pot, meaning the ones that have smoked daily for years are no danger on the roads. It's less intoxicating than pain pills to those people.

Weed's a tricky thing. Scientists can't pinpoint too much about it's effects on the brain. With all substances, scientists can tell you what part of the brain the drug affects and why it does what it does.

Pot bounces around goes to each part of the brain at different times, producing different results each and every time it's smoked. It's a totally different animal.

Then what about the "conditioned" smokers as you said in the previous post. If it triggers different responses each time, then who's to say the 20 year toker doesn't smoke something that hits him a little different and sets him off kilter...he's a danger on the road then.

The active ingredient THC (TetraHydrateCannabinol sp? ) changes the speed at which the neurotransmitter acetylcholine is transported across the synapses between axons & dendrites. Sometimes it speeds it up. Sometimes it slows it down. Thats why you feel high.
