How many of you still receive a paper copy of the news?

I read a headline today saying the KC Star had a bunch of layoffs - and was wondering how the industry may be changing. I realize this poll has been done before, but how many of you still receive the newspaper every day, or just Sunday?

What do you think of our little site? Have you seen it? I'd love to reduce my printing by about 85% and direct everybody to our website for a lot of reasons:
1. Reduction of printing costs.
2. Reduction of handling investment.
3. Reductions of distribution.
4. Environmental.

Should be and will be are two entirely different things. I don't feel I should have to pay for news. I'm guessing there is a large base of people who feel the same way.

I distribute 8500 copies of our paper without charging our readers a nickel. Our rag is paid for by advertisers.

Granted, our rag isn't paying anybody's salary but it has potential if we play the hand dealt us correctly.

I feel that the industry should, and will be shifting more and more to the online format as time goes on. There are so many possibilities that are untapped, or just being developed that have yet to catch on, that will, that plain old paper newspapers are unable to achieve.

Is online advertising lucrative?

(PS - I'm asking because I'm completely naive on the subject, not because I'm a smart-ass).

I think you have me confused with someone else. I don't get music through file sharing.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but I'm pretty sure we went 'round about it a few years back when you had the Johnny Cash avatar.

College education is the only thing we've gone around about.

For me, no. But google really has a foothold on it.

Sounds like you're doing a good job. Getting your publication paid for by advertising is the way to go if you can pull it off. That's even better considering that people aren't spending as much because of the economy.

It's unbelievably difficult but you wouldn't believe how this paper has grown since we acquired it in June. Our costs keep rising but somehow we keep selling enough to stay afloat. If we can weather the economy storm I think we'll do well in the future. I have to keep our overhead at a minimum though and that's tough.
