Thank goodness Allen is gone.

If Allen were not traded, the Chiefs don't go 2-14 last year. The Chiefs don't set the record for fewest sacks in a year. The Chiefs don't have massive changes.

CP probably would have stuck it out at least another year. If not, the Chiefs would have probably gone with Kuharich, whom most believed was being groomed to be CP's replacement.

With CP or Kuharich, and a decent season, Herm Edwards would be strolling up and down the sidelines right now.

The reality is that it took a total shit season to cause the massive changes with the Chiefs.

And, with Jared Allen.... the Chiefs would have not had a massively shit season.

Heck, with Kuharich, Herm and Allen, the Chiefs would in fact be better than they are right now. I truly believe that. But, they would still be mediocre.

This is painful. This is the worst I have ever seen as a Chiefs fan....even worse than the 80's.

But, as bad as it is, I would rather build something with Pioli that I think can be great someday, than continue to be a 'decent' team over the next 20 years and struggle to win a playoff game.

So, yeah, Allen had a great game last night. (don't forget the line he faced was worse, much worse, than the Chiefs) Allen is a great player. But, the loss of Allen gave us more than just a few picks. It gave us a new GM. It gave us a new head coach. It gave us a new foundation. It gave us a new direction.

So, good riddance Jared Allen.

I don't believe it. You are assuming herm would chose the right path AND ultimately make the correct choice and not f them up even if he does pick the right player. No way does herm based on what he did in kc deserves that much benefit of the doubt. Besides he even said he wouldn't have picked ryan.

That is true which is why I felt that is when carl should have been fired.
To be able to offer to a new gm all the draft picks from allen to rebuild OR sign him and build for the future. I think that if carl were replaced at that time allen would I think at least have listened to a new gm thinking at least that asswipe is gone now. The gm was the reason he didn't sign and in this case I would be more inclined to be on allen's side than carl's.

Maybe. But I think the Chiefs liked Ryan more than they let on in 2008. For all that Herm was or wasn't.... he knew that a young franchise QB was important, as much as any position on the team.

He may have taken Curry, though. Especially if Allen were still here and he thought Curry was the last piece to a 'great' defense.

Was that after the Chiefs already traded for Cassel? Because I don't think they trade for Cassel if Herm and CP or Kuharich are in charge.

I think the trade for Cassel made Curry the choice for Herm... but without that trade, I think Sanchez would be a Chief.

And, I just don't think that Herm would have traded for Cassel.

They won 4 games with Jared Allen. They won 2 without him. I'll go ahead and give you 3 more wins, but that's about it.

This is the best reply to the subject. You never get rid of a great player no matter what. At what point to we finally say "OK we good enough, now we can keep him"

One of the reasons Carl is out is BECAUSE he couldn't make Allen happy and hold on to him. Regardless of how much better we might have been, Allen's departure helped immensely close the door on the Carl era.
