Are there any actual lawyers on ChiefsPlanet?

I think I need to hire a lawyer for my 16 year old son who got a speeding ticket for going 34 in a 20 school zone.

It is a church school that he didn't realize was a school, and on the description on the ticket, the officer clocked him before he was even 10 feet into the school zone. And he was sitting there waiting for a high school kid, because high school had just let out. I have literally driven down this road over 50,000 times in my life, at all times of day and year, and have never seen cop checking speed in this school zone.

The cop could have seen how nervous my son was, and been understanding about his lack of knowledge of the school, but he wasn't.

So, I need to hire a lawyer, and thought I would ask here first.

If you are not a lawyer, maybe you could recommend someone.

In this situation, knowing that it was a young driver, a warning is something that could have been a decent thing to do.

I don't disagree. And all I really had to go on was the context of the posts I read. I almost posted another one about how the world will shit on you without regard, but I figured at that point you were just venting about it. It just depends on the cop's mood for the day and it sucks he had bad luck. You can get it fixed though. It'll just cost a few bucks which is the part that sucks the most.

I asked them to take the person who broke into my house outside. I did not ask the police to leave.

So if there was a sign and the dumbass kid should have slowed down wouldn't the proper response to teach your son be "Gee, officer, I am wrong. I did it and will take responsibility for it"? Not EVERY ****ING COP IN BLUE SPRINGS IS A JERK and getting an attorney. Your disdain for the police has me thinking there is more to this story

He's more likely to call every police officer in Ble Springs, "including the female ones", "Dicks" as his father does and consult an attorney if he gets caught. For Dad to call every cop in the town he grew up in a "Dick" tells me he has quite a past with them.

He was never likely to speed in a school zone. But he will pay more attention now. But he would have paid more attention with a warning.

I wouldn't use that argument in court. I'm pretty sure the judge will stop you at "Yes he was speeding in a school zone, but..."

Taking it to court implies he doesn't deserve it, or else what's the point? A warning could have accomplished the same thing, but that's a favor and shouldn't ever be expected, because you still broke the law. It's not on the cop to determine when he wants to give you a warning, because he never has to... and it was a school zone, maybe the cop thought he had no choice or maybe they never give warnings in school or construction zones. Sounds pretty logical why they wouldn't....

Yeah, like being pulled out of my truck when I was 17 and having a gun pointed at my head, when I reached for my insurance card, like the police officer asked me for my insurance card.

Or being pulled over for going 26 in a 25 because i had a black person in the car with me and they wanted to see his ID. That is why he said he pulled me over, for going 26 in a 25.

Like I said, I grew up here, and I will say that 90% of all the people I know who live here agree with me.

I don't want to take it to court. I just want it reduced so it will not appear as a speeding ticket on his record.

If anyone thinks that I want to fight it, that is not the case. He did it. He is guilty.

Ok now, this is good! The real story. This isn't about your son. As I suspected its about you. And, man, I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I'd probably feel the same way if I had those experiences. But also try to seperate that out from this situation. Don't go all attorney for no reason and pass on your issues with the police to your kid when you can use this as a teaching lesson for your son. Deal with your stuff seperately.
