Trevor Lawrence, lots of salary cap room, the #1 overall pick... it is a better job than Houston, the Saints or the Dolphins.

None of these job openings are ideal situations.

Not if the GM is more likely than not to **** it up.

Salary cap situation or not, I'd take the Saints job if I had a chance at all 3.

The Saints are $76 million over the salary cap, have no QB, no offensive weapons other than Kamara, their first round draft pick is outside of the top 10, etc.

Yup, Saints are a mess, I would not take Saints job, Dolphins and Texans are better jobs although that is not saying much though

If you are a proven head coach like Doug Pederson, Jacksonville is a very appealing job. Lawrence plus the number one pick and a very shitty division.

The first year is a bit treacherous but I think you make these moves:

Cut RB Mark Ingram, S Malcolm Jenkins, S J.T. Gray, CB Bradley Roby, DE Tanoh Kpassagnon,

Restructure QB Taysom Hill, OG Andrus Peat, OT Ryan Ramczyk, CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Michael Thomas

Trade RB Alvin Kamara, DE Marcus Davenport

Puts you at about $15 million in space after signing ERFAs.
Run it tight up to $0 and fill in with low-priced FAs wherever you can.

Cut June 1 DE Cameron Jordan

Adds $15 million in space post June 1 so you can sign the draft class, pick up a couple late FAs and have money for the season.

Leaves you about $40 m under next year with only OC Eric McCoy and WR Marquez Calloway (RFA) as bigger tickets to re-sign.

They can be fine, but its going to be some work to get 5 guys restructured (could trade Lattimore but that's epic stupid).

Well if you get paid enough when it fails. Culley got 22m for his 1 year in Houston.

Yeah, no matter how bad your cap hell is, you’re always one year of eating shit away from clearing most of it out amd starting fresh.

Yep... too bad a couple of those contracts in the "restructure" group are really ones that never should have happened to begin with. Taysom Hill and Andrus Peat were just bad moves that are difficult to step away from now.

Honestly, Leftwich had a perfect opportunity to go to a place where he had Trevor Lawrence, several good draft picks and lots of cap room. He could win 4 games here in J-ville and he would still be considered king. It's a win-win for him and Baalke would probably be gone anyway.

He overplayed his hand....and now will be stuck with Houston, New Orleans or Miami. Houston is probably the best option there.....New Orleans is deep in a hole due to cap situations....Miami is stuck with Tua.

As I said in another thread....would be funny if Leftwich is left at the altar this year when he could have come to the Jags and (with patience) had a perfect situation.

If I were Leftwich I wouldn't gamble my first HC opportunity on the hope and a prayer that Baalke gets fired and the next guy still wants to retain the coach. That's a bold strategy Cotton.
