Believe what your eyes tell you, not what your heart feels.

Nearly all of us and at a minimum a vast majority has seen this team in the Cassel, Smith and Mahomes era.

Another big chunk have watched the Montana, Green, Gannon, Grbac periods.

And the old farts like me have had to endure Mike Livingston, Mark Vlasic, Steve Pelluer, Bill Kenney and Steve DeBerg.

We ALL know the difference between a really bad team, an average team, an over achiever, an under achiever, a good and great team.

At this point, if you don't realize that this 2023 Chiefs team is average at best and trending down, you need to remove your homer goggles.

I love our team and have spent 53 years rooting for them when it was hard as hell to do and I didn't have other fans to console me after all the loses. I grew up in NJ. There were no Chiefs fans that I knew.

Mahomes and the Super Bowl delivered incredible joy and pride.

Now after 2 Super Bowls and non-stop winning we have hit an off year. It's easy to do in the NFL and we lasted longer than most teams do winning all the time.

Many of you see it but have remained overly optimistic. God Bless your devotion. I did that already for 50 years and now I can be much more realistic after the SB wins.

Do yourself a favor and be honest with yourself. You see it, you feel it and you know it.

This team has no chance in the playoffs. Don't try to tell me anything can happen, because it really doesn't. Yeah, a neat play here or there or maybe a win against a shit team but even now that is unlikely.

This team is burnt out. Since Game 1 not a ****ing thing has improved and in some cases has gotten worse: Mahomes and Kelce in particular.

When your top two stars are ****ing up and look like they need a month off to rest, you know you are in trouble.

I pray everyone stays healthy, we shut this shit show of a season down, rest our franchise QB before he gets injured or killed. The dude was running for his LIFE all day and our Oline has also gone backwards.

We have a great young defense, can focus on Oline and WRs for draft and signing FAs to rebound in 2024.

From play calling, to turnovers to penalties to oline blocking to drops, this has been a brutally ugly season.

Time to turn the page on 2023 and get our shit fixed ASAP cause it ain't gonna change in 2023.

U can wear the homer glasses all u want. No biggie. But this team is not that good and can not still beat anyone. They are exactly who they have shown us they are. A mistake prone team that cant score. Zero come from behind winning drives this season, and a WR room that leads the league in drops. The OT's are terrible and the interior 3 is overrated. They have lost 4 games at home this season, that says something.

The defense IS very good. But this isn't the 90's. In an offense driven league, this season is what u get with a good defense paired with an offense that is not very good.

Top tier defense doesn’t win in the playoffs in the modern day NFL….esp. when your offense is beyond inept.

I don't think they're a bad team. They're an undisciplined team, (on offense in particular.) I think we're starting to see the decline of Travis Kelce, a talented WR in the making with Rice, and a bunch of scrubs. It's hard for us as fans watching our offense since we're so used to Mahomes and the offense score at will.

Could this team go on a run in the playoffs? Sure. But I've also thought all year we'd see the offense improve, and it hasn't. I have no expectations for the playoffs this season.

I'm optimistic to see what 2024 brings.

And if the Chiefs defense was “top tier” that could realistically drag this shitty offense back to the Super Bowl they would have made a stop on that final drive or forced a turnover during the game.

Did they play well enough to win? Absolutely.

Are they good enough to compensate for the Chiefs offense? No.

My eyes tell me this is the dumbest team the Chiefs have fielded since Gunther's years.

That doesn't translate to winning games.

If you think it's "time to turn the page on 2023", then stop watching. What else is there to say?

I'm thinking fans should still show up to the stadium, the team should still show up every week, that sort of thing.

Unless "turn the page on 2023" means something else.

Is there something specific I should be doing?
You're being a smug smartass and you know it.

The defense is top tier. They're just not historically good like the '85 Bears or the 2013 Ravens. That's the only kind of defense that could compensate for their terrible offense.

What in the hell are you watching that tells you the Chiefs can go on a run in the playoffs?

Please enlighten me.

My eyes tell me that Mahomes is a bit off, but my head tells me that this team can win a Super Bowl if he gets back into form. I'll never doubt what he can do, so there is always going to be hope. Especially in a playoff series. The best QBs win more often than not in the playoffs and we have the best.

Agreed.

They are not good enough to overcome a bad/limited offense.

Especially with their inability to force turnovers.

Chiefs defense 24th in the league in forced turnovers.

I absolutely agree with the OP. I could see the writing on the wall several weeks back when we lost to Denver then the Eagles and finally with the Packers. Today was a 1000% what the OP is saying. We have been very spoiled with success, now we are spoiled with dropped passes, stupid mistakes and penalties. This season is done. Revamp in the off season and draft. We will right this ship but it won't be in 2023. Chin up and move forward.
