How many of you still receive a paper copy of the news?

I read a headline today saying the KC Star had a bunch of layoffs - and was wondering how the industry may be changing. I realize this poll has been done before, but how many of you still receive the newspaper every day, or just Sunday?

I'll buy the Sunday paper every couple of weeks. But there are 2-4 newspaper websites I frequent everyday. Besides, everybody knows you can get all your news from CP.

We're down to just the Sunday paper here. It's the only one of the week worth getting, and it provides a nice supply of fire starters for the fireplace.

Nope, I use iGoogle to get feeds from the KC Star, NY Times, Washington Post, Business Week, CIO, Digg, etc. And then I have AdBlock to get rid of any potential revenue.

Then again, every industry is laying off people these days... American Century this week, Circuit City just closed a bunch of stores, my company cut 10%, half of Detroit might be out of a job soon with the auto crisis. It's chaos.

I subscribe to the Albuquerque Journal. It has the worst sports page of any newspaper I've ever read but they do cover local news well and I like their syndicated columnists. And my daughter enjoys the Sunday comics.

Sorry, it's an obsolete business. Obsolete businesses go out of business. Welcome to the real world.

If the KC Star didn't feel the need to shove their left-wing agenda down the throats of Kansas Citians, I'd still subscribe. Like most other papers, they decided thier readers needed more than objective reporting of the news and that we couldn't live without their slanted opinions, and they're paying the price for it. Good riddance to them - I get my news elsewhere.

I threw the KC Star in High School from a truck, and have been a daily reader ever since. That's 38 years now. I have friends who write for the Star, so I'll keep my subscription. They're laying people off, not a good time to work for a newspaper right now.

It's not obsolete but it is changing. Newspapers need to have an aggressive online strategy. That should be the focus in these times.
