Can confirm, #Jaguars expected to hire Buccaneers OC Byron Leftwich as their next head coach, per multiple sources. @E_Dilla was on it first.

If your being honest, no one can definitively say that Jax QB situation is any better than Miami or NO. Obviously Houston is trash. Front office too. You say yourself that Baalke is a stop gap and we've all seen Khan step on his own dick with the Meyer situation so the FO is not great either. I wouldn't say he overplayed his hand nearly as much as he stated what he needed and the organization didn't meet his needs.

I don't think Leftwich overplayed anything, I wouldn't want to work for Baalke either. He's incompetent as a GM.

I would not want to go work in Houston with Jack Easterby there either, and they apparently have no intention of firing his ass. While they may have a competent GM, Easterby is just a no-go zone.

Miami has an idiot managing partner in Ross and Grier leaves much to be desired as a GM but at least it seems to be a slightly better situation than the above.

This brings me back to New Orleans. Loomis has kept talent in the building for a good portion of his tenure. Sometimes I think he's a little aggressive and overshoots but as a rule, he's pretty good at acquiring talent. Obviously having Brees helped him for a good portion of that tenure but if you look at the O and D Lineman and WRs he's brought in, they are pretty good. He's a bit hit and miss in the secondary and at LB. Cap purgatory for a year beats the shit out of badly managed teams though, and the Saints can put themselves in a decent enough position this year to be competitive and right the cap heading into 2023.

He’ll have plenty of suitors, could definitely see the Bolts bringing him in as QB coach or OC depending on what their options are.

Well, they need a scapegoat for underperforming personnel on the field. They also canned most of the remainder of the offensive coaching staff. Bowles will need to replace that entire side of the ball and he's a defensive coach. It shall be interesting.

Leftwich is going to get snapped up quickly I think. A team like the Titans that likes to run the ball would fit his playcalling style well, and they just happen to have an opening. I'm curious about where he goes.

And that, friends, is why any coordinator who gets a HC job - ANY head coach job - should take it.

Because you're only ever one bad year away from just being completely forgotten. And that one bad year may be beyond your control.

If you're a good coach, you'll be able to salvage any situation, no matter how seemingly hopeless it is. Pederson demonstrates that in spades.

Waiting for the 'right' situation is a good way to end up in a pile of fungible HC candidates.

Well Leftwich wasn't a Bowles hire, he was stuck with him because of the lateness of Bowles being promoted. The Buccaneers also canned THE WR coach and RB coach.

Sure - And you can bet 'stuck with him' was how Bowles explained the situation in his exit interview.

I mean Leftwich is gonna get an OC gig somewhere. He's a pretty highly regarded coordinator leaguewide. And Bowles has never exactly covered himself in glory as a head coach.

Claiming he was 'stuck with' a guy who might be a little worse than 'his' guy, but could also be a fair amount better, is pretty presumptuous.

Just strikes me as a situation where Bowles blamed not having 'his' staff in place when there's nothing in his history to suggest that hand-picking his staff is going to make a real difference.

This is a dude with a 26-41 record prior to this season. A guy who managed to limp to 8-9 in the worst division I've ever seen. In 5 seasons as a head coach he's managed a .500 record once and helmed a below .500 squad for his only playoff appearance.

I mean there's just about no reason at all to think that giving him MORE rope is going to accomplish anything.

Dolphins just fired their DC who gave Buffalo fits last week. 7 sacks, 2 picks while the offense had 2 picks and 5 or 6 three and outs. It's a tough business.

Seems like the trend so far this year is for HC's on the hot seat to throw the coordinators under the bus from the opposite side of the HC's supposed area of expertise.

Staley, a defensive guy firing his OC and QB coach/passing game coordinator.

McDaniel in Miami, an offensive guy firing his DC.

Bowles a defensive guy in Tampa firing his OC.

Stefanski an offensive guy in Cleveland firing his DC.
