According to Football Zebras, Clete is an alternate this weekend, which typically rules them out of divisional weekend.

Notably not among the alternate officials: Carl Cheffers.

...complete bullshit. If there's a conspiracy theory, there's only ONE this year, and that's the Bills winning the Super Bowl (considering some thought the dumpster fire Bucs were going to make it, and that's not happening).

Sure, most of the time, you may just believe there are conspiracies, but aren't privy to which team the NFL "wants" to win, so you'll make up the narrative after the fact.... this year though, if the Bengals win, or the Chiefs/Jags beat the Bills, or the Bills lose in the Super Bowl, you're ****ing wrong and can shut the **** up forever.
I made that statement 100% as a joke as I expected all the rigged reeruns to run with it.

Yeah, I did to a much larger extent 20 years ago... not to that extreme of needing to place blame on made up things, but would lose sleep over losses and what not. The year KU lost to Syracuse in the NC and the Chiefs lost the no punt game to the Colts was rough.

And then I have Herm Edwards to thank for detaching from the Chiefs to that extent. I still scream at the top of my lungs at Arrowhead and stand (more like bounce) the entire game, postseason losses still suck... but I disassociate after that. Yep, that's what happens when you suck for an entire half, let's grab some food.

I know yours was sarcasm (granted, it's hard to remember who all actually believes it), but I've seen it from a few different people now.

That would be utterly ridiculous. Even non-KC fans I was watching with couldn't believe how clearly he was intentionally screwing us. He single handedly ruined the entire game.

Yep. I don't think it makes someone a conspiracy nut to point out that Cheffers has disproportionately penalized the Chiefs in recent years. We can speculate about the reasons, but the numbers speak for themselves and can't be denied.

I don't want to believe things are crooked but it wouldn't surprise me to find out games were being steered to hit certain spread totals. Money corrupts. So saying there is only one conspiracy theory and that's the bills winning... more likely it would be about money and not a feel good story.

I didn’t cry, but that loss stung more than any other game I’ve been to. Walking out of the stadium was like leaving one giant funeral. One long frozen walk to the car without hearing a peep, and then waiting forever to get out of the parking lot.

Yeah, and my own theory is they didn't want a repeat of the end of the Bills game, so they tried to crack down on some things and went waaay overboard with it... or, of course, ref who's kid is named after Tom Brady was a bit biased...

And it was a great smashmouth first quarter of football.. thought we were in for a bit of a slugfest, but ended up with the dumpster fire. One of the few times I've been seriously pissed after a game in a long, long time. It's one thing foe the Chiefs to lose all on their own, but felt like that one was also taken away (along with the o-line issues, obviously).

It was '97 for me.. I had started browsing the early message boards, and that awful Denver Post board that was basically made up of like 5 mega-threads, and getting triggered by tash talk. Really hated losing that one.

Nah, a team from Boston won after 9/11 to comfort people in NYC (while their team lost in the first round), and the Saints won to comfort people in New Orleans 4 years after Katrina.

Yeah... I'm as big of a fan as I ever was, but there's a lot more to life now. If we lose it's not a ruined day, it's more like "meh... guess I'll go mow"

Tracking NFL penalty leaders for the 2022 season.
In 2021, the Cowboys (141) and Raiders (131) were the two most penalized teams in the NFL. But both teams made the playoffs.

Who were the most penalized teams in 2022? Were they the teams with the lowest NFL playoff odds?

Here were the most penalized teams in the 2022 regular season.

(25 other teams more penalized than the Chiefs)
