Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

Quote:
Brown is technically the Chiefs’ top free agent, though for the second consecutive year, he might never reach the open market. Similar to last year, the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Brown, which will prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Such a move will allow both parties more time to negotiate a lucrative contract extension. If the parties cannot agree to a deal by the middle of July, Brown would once again be restricted to a one-year salary of $18.4 million, according to Over The Cap.

Quote:
The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.
Not really new news...but he won't be hitting the open market at least.

We're already going to replace RT, doing 2 OTs in 1 year is very hard.

You said it's a bad WR year...it's not. It doesn't have a WR going top 5,that's it.

Don't worry, Skyy Moore will catch 80+ next year.

This WR class isn't as good as the last couple years, but you're talking about some of the best WR classes ever.

In no way is this the worst WR class ever. That's just hyperbole.

And per usual, when people talk about a bad class, they're usually talking about the top. There are no top 10 caliber guys at the position, but we aren't ****ing drafting there anyways.

Maybe he will dumbass. Either way, re-signing OBJ doesn't necessarily keep the Chiefs from re-signing JuJu or adding another WR.

There are at least 4-5 WRs in this draft that could step in and succeed in their first year in this offense.

It is a bad year in the draft for WR's. The depth of the WR class is bad this year. How many more ways does it need to be said?

We aren't exactly in the best position to pick one of the best WR's in this draft because of the weakness of the WR class, but since OL is much deeper than WR it should be easier to find a better pick with our present draft position that could pick up the offense to start week 1 rather than a WR.

The depth isn't the issue. It's the top of the class where there are no elite prospects at the position.

The fact that you don't understand this, while also claiming that it will be easier to find a starting LT goes to show that you're absolutely ****ing clueless.

Good thing one WR and his first year determines what other players do.

You realize you sound like an idiot, right?

I just dont get why some people arent seeing the massive damage to the cap that paying a huge amount to OBJ will do.

We will lose 4/5 players who are and can continue to be extremely productive. We didnt do this with Tyreek, a far more valuable asset, and no way in hell should we consider doing it with OBJ.
