The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Well, I always warmup prior to doing a heavy load.

I'll go for a walk on the treadmill for like 5 minutes, and then I'll stretch my whole body, do 1 light set, and then move forward to doing heavy sets.

Which is the wearing of the cartilage under the patella of the knee over time. Now, I do a lot of Squats and Leg Presses or even exercises like deadlifts. Im really scared, Im in my early 30's and have been working out for 10+ years, I think this originated due to excessive amounts of squatting over the years, I do heavy poundages from time to time for strength and power building purposes. I do squats just because I find there is no other exercise that can act as a substitute when its comes to building total body strength and power. Im huge on that.

Now, Im aware that the most sensible thing to do, is to NOT do heavy squatting cause that would probably cause further wear and tear on the area but Im a stubborn person...lol

Is there anything I could do to work around this? I was thinking of wearing wraps around my knees when I do heavy squats, but then, I find those to be counterproductive? Even though one may be able to lift more weight with the wraps, the wraps have a tendency to absorb the stress that comes from the load of heavy squats and actually reduce the hydrostatic pressure which is good. But, because of the absorbtion of stress, the tissues around the knees don't become strengthen which is bad. It's a total catch 22.

does anybody have any suggestions? If worst comes to worst, I am going to use the wraps as a last resort.

*Im scared because the worse this gets, eventually it develops into arthritis.

quad stretching may help out. It helped my knee issue, per silock.

How are you squatting? Do you go below parallel, or do you stop early? If you're just going to 90 degrees, that puts a LOT of force on the front of the knee. The knee isn't designed to handle those kinds of loads. If you go down further, it transfers the weight to the hips, which are much beefier and designed to handle the load.

Don't use wraps. You're covering up a problem.

Try Bulgarian split squats with lighter weight. Stretch your quads after. See what happens when you do lighter weight for a while. Also, see a doctor immediately if it gets worse, or lingers no matter what weight you use.

I was going to go work out today, but I think I'll pass. Went into the dentist this morning for two filling replacements (the old ones fell out) and came back with two root canals, 2 more fillings and 2 temporary crowns.

I just took a Vicodin, so I might be able to play soccer tonight, but lifting is definitely out until tomorrow.

Nope. No health insurance right now. WebMD says it should go away on its own in 3-5 days. If not, I'll have to sack up and pay for a doctor and drugs.

My wife brought that home for me a couple of nights ago. It's getting better. But I didn't know if it had anything to do with that. Has it worked for you in the past? I've been dropping them about 4 times a day.

Tooth pain is the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. I've had some rocking ****ing tooth aches because I didn't get my wisdom teeth removed until it became a necessity. I hate doctors, dentists, etc. and pretty much only go if I have too.

I've had women tell me that a rockin tooth ache is worse than child birth.

I don't know about that. This is nothing compared to my kidney stones.

The problem is that it's not bad enough to REALLY complain about, but it's too much to just ignore. Hence, annoying. About to take some more Vic, though.
