Haven’t watched it in a few years. Are they running gravel bikes now? I remember in the late 80s someone (I think it was LeMond) used a prototype road bike fork from Rock Shox.

Here's last year's finish. Look at the mud on these dudes. Been riding for 90 miles over 6 hours.

Well its that time of year again!
The cobbled classics come to a climax this weekend with the Queen of the Classics the Paris Roubaix.
Last Sunday, the Cobble Classic Ronde Van Vlaanderen (Flanders) was put on its head as Tour de France Champion Tadej Pogacar rode away from the Cobbled Specialist Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. This was a special ride as only 2 Tour de France champions have ever won Flanders, (Louison Bobet (1955) and Belgian great Eddy Merckx (1975)).

Now it is time for the final Queen of them all Paris Roubaix.
Often called the Hell of the North the Paris Roubaix is a special race. Started in 1896 the course has 27 sections of rough, bone-jarring cobblestones await the riders.
Here is a little history on this race.

Last year was one of the fastest Roubaix's on record. It was also dry. Fans love a good wet Paris Roubaix and the forecast for this Sunday looks wet!

2023 Favorites:
Mathieu Van Der Poel
Mads Pedersen
Dylan Van Baarle
Christophe Laporte

Americans:
Quinn Simmons
Magnus Sheffield

How to watch:
Flobikes-$$$ To much money for my taste
Peacock-I prefer the Peacock app as it captures the Tour de France race in the summer and the Vuelta Espana in the fall.

The only relevant question(s) is; do you still have a boner and is it the original or did you take a break and then re-boner?

Reason why they don't use beefier bikes? Seems like common sense doesn't it?

Speed.
Between each sector of cobbles are many kilometers of regular pavement. Heavy beefy bikes/with large tires couldn't keep up. At one point some racers tried shocks but it fell out of favor. Tires do make all the difference in this race as punctures are common especially in the 5 Star Sectors of Cobbles.

Paris-Roubaix never disappoints, what a race!
Too bad for Degenkolb and van Aert, they woulda been there at the end with van der Poel if not for problems.

Indeed! This was an epic Roubaix. Fastest on record.
Mathieu Van der Poel and his team ALPECIN-DECEUNINCK tactically executed the perfect race. I thought at first Van de Poel was working much to hard. But his team did the one two punch and secured 1st and 2nd.
Van der Poel's arch rival Wout Van Aert punctured at a critical moment on the 5 Star Carrefore de l'Abre and Van der Poel pulled away.
As always there were many crashes. Former Roubaix winners Peter Sagan and Dylan Van Baarle crashed and DNF.

We can now say without a doubt that the Mathieu Van der Poel will go down in history as one of the best one day classic riders. Monuments under his belt include:
Paris Roubaix-1
Flanders-2
Milan San Remo-1
This kid races to race. His mode is always attack and make people suffer.
