Woman Wakes Up After 20 Years in Coma

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- A story out of Hutchinson Wednesday was nothing short of incredible.

A woman who had been in a coma for the past 20 years suddenly woke up, according to a report Wednesday night on "KCTV5 News at 10."

Sarah Scantlin was 18 years old when a drunk driver hit her in 1984.

She'd been in a coma ever since, that was, until a nurse showed her a children's book for the pictures and Sarah suddenly started to read it out loud.

"I started listening to the conversation, and I'll be darned. She's not talking about Sarah, she's talking to her. I got on the phone, and she said, 'Hi Dad.' I didn't ever think I'd see or hear that again," said James Scantlin, her father.

After coping with their loss for 20 years, her parents said their dilemma was what to say after so long.

She still thought she was 18 years old but was able to recall family pets and to recognize friends who'd aged 20 years.

Wow, 20 years. Glad to hear about the happy ending, but what a waist of a young life.

I wonder if she was on life support or not. I love my family and all, but I would have to think if I were on life support for that long someone would have pulled the plug.

Damn... The drunk driver that did this to her is already OUT of jail, no doubt.

To her:

1. Reagan is the President

2. Communism is alive and well. The Soviet Union is our biggest enemy.

3. Gulf War I hasn't happened yet, much less Gulf War II.

4. Bird and Magic are in their prime. She has no idea who Michael Jordan is.

5. The Giants, 49ers and Redskins rule. The Patriots are a collosal joke of a football team.

I can't even think of the technological innovations that she doesn't know about. I think Space Invaders was about the coolest video game at that point in time. Hell, maybe Pong!
