My Final Mock for the Chiefs

Here is my plan/mock for the Chiefs come draft day. I know I'm going to get killed for this, but here it goes.

First, trade down from #15 IF - Carlos Rogers, Derrick Johnson, or Rolle isn't there. Davis, Ware, Pollack are very appealing but some teams will want to move ahead of New Orleans to get Davis. The Rams are probally one of those team, St. Louis spot at #19 looks appealing. Acquire from the Rams #19 and 3rd round pick #81.

Draft
1. (From Rams) Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma - I want defense like everybody but Clayton is the best value on the board, and WR is a need.
2. Traded to Miami for Patrick Surtain
3. (From Rams) Channing Crowder, LB Florida
3. Brandon Browner, CB Oregon State
4. Dustin Colquitt, P Tennessee
5. Albert Means, DT Memphis
5. Jared Newberry, LB Stanford
6. Stefan LeFors, QB Louisville
6. Darren Sproles, RB Kansas State
7. Taylor Stubblefield, WR Purdue
7. Alex Holmes, TE USC

It's not terrible. I like Browner at the 3rd round. Really like him there, actually, and it's possible. But this doesn't address the OLB need.

I like the Clayton pick. I don't know much about the draftees beyond the first round or two. I'd like to see the Chiefs get a an OLB that can play some this year. Not sure if you've got him in here or not...

I love both of your third round picks, and the best thing is- it's actually quite possible they will both be there.

Not sold on getting a punter in the fourth. A punter can wait, we simply have too many needs to fill holes and depth.

LeFors, Sproles, and particularly Stubblefield would all be an excellent way to end the draft.

I think WR may be the big surprise.

Here's Gosselin on Clayton, he ranks him #18 out of the top 100:

18. Mark Clayton, WR, Oklahoma

Mark Clayton

The NFL likes big receivers, and there were plenty to be had in the 2004 draft: Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Williams, Michael Clayton. Lee Evans was the shrimp at 5-10, so he slid, despite the fact he was one of the fastest receivers (4.37) and biggest producers on the board (19.8-yard career average at Wisconsin). Buffalo took him with the 13th overall pick, and he wound up on the NFL all-rookie team with nine touchdowns and a 17.6-yard average. Mark Clayton is the little guy (5-10) who will slide in the first round of this draft despite his speed (4.40) and college productivity (220 catches and 31 TDs at Oklahoma). The tall guys - Braylon Edwards, Troy Williamson and Mike Williams - all could go before him, but don't be surprised if Clayton has the best rookie year of them all.
