What about posting it, not verbadum as well as where the article came from, that should knock out the legality issue for the mods.

My guess is that with Phob taking over partly, he has enough grand plans for the board that he wants to ensure that if we get higher profile, we aren't shut down by ESPN or something.

If censoring is part of the new policy, I doubt it's going to work.

We've been asked by ESPN not to allow Insider threads.
It's been a policy all along, but we didn't feel too strongly about it. You are more than welcome to share the context of Insider articles, but a cut and paste isn't legal. I'd love to allow Insider stuff because I'm interested in that stuff, too. It increases the value of this board to our members. But, I don't want to have to pay a lawyer either. Sorry. |

FWIW, I'm not an ESPN subscriber. I don't know of too many mods who are.... It's gonna be really difficult to enforce this policy when some of our users get creative.

How about as part of the future "subscription" plans, you work a deal with ESPN to get planet subscribers free memberships or mirror there content here in discussion format? Obviously would have to pay a percentage of each subscriber fee, but would be cool to only pay one subscriber fee at one location rather than paying multiple ones. Maybe a deal with KFFL could be worked out too? Kind of a tiered subscribership? Premium package gets access to mirrored ESPN Insider and KFFL stuff, Fantasy package gets KFFL, Insider package gets ESPN, Planet package gets whatever you were already planning?
I know a lot of tech sites are starting to do this kind of thing, although not on a subscription base (i.e. theregister.com and securityfocus.com). It would be cool to get all the content from one site (AKA The Planet), and I'd bet KFFL and ESPN probably wouldn't mind partner links and adds, etc. Anyways, just a thought. Oh yeah, how about hosting football pools and fantasy leagues like some of the other sites as well? I don't know how much the software to do that costs, but there are tons out there. Would be cool to have multiple CP pools (for money of course!) for the regualr season, than maybe a points based pool in the playoffs for the winners of each league. Well, rambling again, guess I'll go pay for my subscription service now before I begin thinking that my low monthly fee to CP will solve all me real life problems!

Edit: So if we simply begin "hiding" Insider data it's OK? Hmm, we could just use something like this! Nobody would ever know!
