Chiefs agree to terms with four more rookie free agents
CHIEFS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FOUR MORE ROOKIE FREE AGENTS
May 03, 2005, 1:32:39 PM http://kcchiefs.com/news/2005/05/03/...e_free_agents/ Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to terms with four more rookie free agents. C Mike Johnson, DT Darius Jones, CB Justin Perkins and DE Zach Ville all agreed to terms of two-year contracts. C Mike Johnson (6-3, 296) appeared in 41 games (37 starts) at Kansas State, opening 31 consecutive contests to conclude his collegiate career. He helped San Diego’s 2005 fourth-draft pick RB Darren Sproles set a Wildcats single-season record with 1,318 rushing yards in 2004. The Boulder, Colorado native earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press as a junior and senior. Johnson was a three-year starter at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado. DT Darius Jones (6-2, 304) played in 30 games at Wisconsin, registering 92 tackles (51 solo), 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks (-47.0 yards). He also had one fumble recovery, four forced fumbles, an interception (13 yards) and seven passes defensed. Jones was selected honorable mention All-America by USA Today as a senior at Memorial High School in Beloit, Wisconsin. He recorded 128 tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks his senior campaign. CB Justin Perkins (5-10, 186) started 36 games at cornerback for Connecticut, recording 170 tackles (131 solo), 8.0 tackles for loss, 12 interceptions and 42 passes defensed. He opened all 12 games as a senior, registering 38 tackles (24 solo), a tackle behind the line, five interceptions and 12 passes defensed to earn first-team All-Big East accolades. Perkins was a two-year letterwinner at Plantation High School in Sunrise, Florida. DE Zach Ville (6-1, 291) saw action in 24 games (22 starts) at Missouri after starting his college career at West Hills Junior College in Coalinga, California. He produced 85 tackles (47 solo), 22.0 tackles behind the line, 4.5 sacks (-30.0 yards), one interception, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles and 13 QB pressures for the Tigers. The Miami, Florida native totaled 15.0 career sacks and led his team to the state championship as a junior at Northwestern High School in Miami. |

Perkins isn't half bad. He can make plays, but has a habit of picking up PI calls.

Will Mike Johnson be this year's Ryan Lilja?
Perkins started for a bowl team and was All-Big East? Probably got a chance to compete with Battle and Sapp for 5th CB behind Surtain, Warfield, McCleon, and Hodge. You gotta think Bartee has to finally be gone after 5 years of ineptness. I'd actually be fine with keeping Hodge, Sapp, and Perkins behind the starters and getting rid of McCleon, Battle, and Bartee. I'm sick of those guys dragging us down.

I didn't realize Lilja started six games last year. Would have been nice to keep him around.
