KANSAS CITY AGREES TO TERMS WITH FREE AGENT WR AZ-ZAHIR HAKIM
Jun 15, 2005, 10:43:30 AM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a one-year contract with free agent WR Az-Zahir Hakim. As per Chiefs policy, no further terms of the agreement were made available.

Hakim (5-10, 178) has played in 92 games (37 starts), catching 265 passes for 3,555 yards (13.4 avg.) with 26 touchdowns and rushing 30 times for 197 yards (6.6 avg.) with a touchdown. He has also returned 131 punts for 1,513 yards (11.5 avg.) with three touchdowns and three kickoffs for 37 yards (12.3 avg.). Hakim played in seven postseason games (one start) with St. Louis, recording 21 receptions for 284 yards (13.5 avg.) and four carries for 24 yards (6.0 avg.). He has also contributed 11 punt returns for 149 yards (13.5 avg.).

The Los Angeles, California native spent three seasons (2002-04) with Detroit, playing in 36 contests (27 starts). Hakim caught 117 passes for 1,523 yards (13.0 avg.) with 10 touchdowns and rushed eight times for 54 yards (6.8 avg.) with the Lions. He added 19 punt returns for 233 yards (12.3 avg) and a touchdown.

The eight-year veteran began his NFL career with four campaigns (’98-02) in St. Louis. Hakim produced 148 receptions for 2,032 yards (13.7 avg.) with 16 touchdowns and 22 carries for 143 yards (6.5 avg.) with one score for the Rams. He had 112 punt returns for 1,280 yards (11.4 avg.) with two touchdowns and three kickoff returns for 37 yards. He originally entered the league as the first of the Rams two fourth-round selections (96th overall) in the ‘98 NFL Draft.

Hakim was a four-year letterman at San Diego State where he earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a sophomore. He caught 57 passes for 1,022 yards (17.9 avg.) with eight TDs that season. He was an all-city defensive back at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, California.

If we're lucky he'll play in about 5 games this year. Someone PLEASE shake this guy and tell him there's a coaching job at SDSU for him if he wants it:
• college co-ed environment
• La Jolla
• no real chance of getting your knee(s) crushed
