OT: Junk email-like text messages

Okay, I just moved to Kansas City so I changed my phone number two weeks ago. This morning, I got woken up at 5 AM to a text message that was from an unknown sender that looked like a junk email...it was like hot stocks click here or something like that. I've gotten about 8 of those today out of the blue. Has anyone else had this problem before and is there a solution? I just put my new number on the Do Not Call Registry but that may take a while before the texts go away. Anyone here of this and know any solutions?
