Problem With firefox...

I went to a site that had video and my Firefox displayed the "puzzle piece" pic with the message that I needed to download a plugin for that type of file. I clicked on the "install plugin" link and it brought me to a page where I could get Windows Media Player. So I downloaded it into my Firefox plugin folder and started installing. At the end of the installation I get an error message that my license(s) were not transfered over properly and set up can not complete. I've tried this several times and it keeps repeating. I'd rather stick with Firefox but this is an annoyance. Any ideas?

Uninstall whatever you did with Media Player.

Copy and paste this address into your address bar. I'm not sure why, but clicking it doesn't work.

Install, and restart Firefox (maybe even restart your PC).

Let me know what happens.

Now when I go back the video player gives me this message:

We're sorry, this feature requires the Mozilla ActiveX Plugin. Click here to install.

I did, then restarted my PC, and it still gives me the same error message when I try to play the video.

Weird. Mine worked earlier, but didn't work just a minute ago. Strangely, if I refresh a couple times, it will usually work.

After messing with it for a while, I can't get it to work consistently on mine. I'd probably recommend just getting the IE View plugin. It lets you kick certain pages into IE when they don't load right in Firefox. Handy for pages like this that are just plain stubborn.

If you want to keep trying to troubleshoot it, you might try installing this one instead. Make sure you get the one for your version of Firefox - probably 1.5. Also, check out this page. There's a bunch of troubleshooting information about the plugin, as well as a test to make sure the plugin is working.

I think that's about all I can suggest. Good luck!

Firefox won't work on my company site either, is this the same kind of issue? Or do I need to turn something on or off?

It's my company's secure site, it is just not bringing up some of the pages.

No easy way to tell then. The IE View thing linked above is a way of getting around basically any Firefox problem by simply opening the page into IE instead. Install that, then go to your company's page and select "Always view this page in IE" from the Tools menu. That way it will automatically kick it into IE any time it needs to.

Bear in mind that you have to open your company's page in Firefox to do this.
