I just use media player. When you insert a music disk then an option should come up as rip music. You can set the different options like bitrate in the options menu.

Thanks guys.
The problem is she has an older computer with XP, but the Windows Media player is shot and she doesn't have net access. Any other ones I can download?

Give Audiograbber a try. It's a bit tricky to set up the first time as I recall because you have to download the DLL file separately and drop it in the program folder. However, it's simple to use once you get it going and it's free. It's strictly a ripper - not a player.
