Rapper with local ties involved in shooting

A rapper with ties to Tampa is behind bars following a shooting at a Gainesville nightclub Sunday.

Police said as Algernod Washington, who goes by the stage name "Plies," wrapped up his performance, two members of his entourage began shooting when his mike was cut off so another rapper could take the stage. Five people were shot and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Washington, 30, is charged with illegal possession of a concealed weapon. The two other men are charged with attempted murder. Washington spent a few semesters as a student at USF.
