Huard...willing and able

I don't know about you all, but as the season goes on, it seems to me Damon Huard is taking greater and greater risks throwing the ball to our big money playmakers, and it's paying off! By comparison, Trent Green seemed to wait for TG, Dante Hall, and Kennison to get real open before throwing them the ball, and if they weren't he would dump the ball off to the running back. But Damon's been sticking it in there in tight coverage with pinpoint accuracy. It's like he's expecting the receivers to go get the ball, and they've been responding with spectacular results. With the resurgence of our offense it's particularly hard to imagine handing the reigns back over to Trent Green. It's going to be a test of character to see whether Green, competitor that he is, has the heart and grace to let the "Hot Hand" on the team at the moment to play himself out, even if it means Huard takes us right through the playoffs. Chiefs Fans in KC might have a better take on this, as we don't get to see every game the Chiefs play out here in Hawaii, and have to rely alot on streaming audio.

Having lived through the Gannon-Grbac fiasco I'm all for letting Huard play...not saying he's appreciably better than Trent, just that he has the mojo working for him right now and - as you point out - the rest of the team seems to be clicking with him.

A serious question here: has Huard fumbled every time he's been sacked?

If trent was hit from behind without seeing the guy coming he would most likely fumble too...dont forget who our left tackle is

That's not what I asked.

Has Huard fumbled every time he's been sacked? Yes or no?

What was in your mind during pre-game warm ups? ”[The injured groin] was sore. You’ve just got to get in your mind, ‘So what?’ get in there and play even if it’s sore. The training staff, coaches, everybody was a part of a collective effort and got me ready to play. I’m just glad I did. This was so much fun beating my hometown team. … You can’t play slow in this league. I knew that. I had to play the game and if I held up, I held up. That’s a tribute to these people here in our training room and everyone in this organization who got me ready to roll.”

On the significance of playing against his hometown team: “Absolutely. It was a team I grew up watching and a team my brother played for four years. It’s my home; I live there. It was fun to play against some guys that I know. It was a great win but more importantly, a great win for the Chiefs. It gets us over .500 and we’ve got some momentum going and, so, it’s one to build on.“

On this being one of his better games, even with the groin injury: “Probably, although once you get into the heat of the battle you don’t feel it much. But our training room and our trainers gave up their whole weekend to spend time to get me ready to play and I can’t thank them enough. Once the adrenaline [starts pumping] and the fans [get into the game] you just forget about it.“

On WR Eddie Kennison and TE Tony Gonzalez: ”[The catch he made near the end of the game] was just unbelievable. They are great playmakers. You’ve just got to put the ball in their direction and they make plays for you.“

On RB Larry Johnson: “Larry had a huge day. We’ve got a lot of playmakers on this offense and it’s my job is to get them the ball.“

On challenges faced in the game: “We made some silly mistakes, including myself on the fumble in the first half. You’ve got to eliminate that stuff and when you have a chance to jump on people you’ve got to do it. We didn’t do that today. But give credit to the Seahawks. They put up a great fight and Seneca Wallace wasn’t intimidated in his first start.“

On how hard it will be to give up the reins when Trent comes back: “The fact that you’re talking about it is a good thing because it means we’re winning games. Trent is the starting quarterback and this year on this team my job is to back him up and fill in if he’s out. That’s what I’m doing.“

On being surprised at how well he’s playing: “No, I have a great team and great players around me. You just believe in yourself and keep fighting. When you get an opportunity you just go out and make the most of it. I’ve always been confident and always believed in myself. But the most important thing is that your teammates believe in you. When you win close games and you get to practice as much as we have together, everyone believes in you and we all have the confidence that we need to win.“

On Jared Allen’s fumble: “Give credit to Deion Branch. I played with that guy in New England. That’s just an unbelievable football play. He made that one-handed catch and is one of the premier receivers in this league.”

Sorry. I thought you were being sarcastic.

So, how often does he fumble when he's sacked?

Wait. He's played in 7 games in 2006? And he's fumbled 8 times? And lost 5 of them?

Is that correct?

I don't think that is right. Sure doesn't sound right.
