I'm guessing that, subject to a passed physical, Trent Green will be the Chiefs starting QB in '01. I would have to imagine that the preliminary details of the trade were mutually agreed upon before Trent paid his visit to KC.

Trent Green and a 2nd rder for our #12 and a 3rd rder is about one #12 too much, IMO. Help me understand how this makes sense for the Chiefs? Do we honestly believe that the Chiefs can turn things around on the shoulders of the oft' injured Green?

Is it worth trading the #12 pick in this years draft, in order to secure a QB, who in all liklihood, will not see a postseason game with the Chiefs until possibly 2003 (at age 33). I say that because this team is further away (defensively) than obtaining a QB. Our once proud and deep defense (which got us into several postseason's) looks shallow and uncertain. The #12 pick provides value for our future. I still contend that we should trade down the #12 for a later 1st rder and a 2nd rder. Pick up the best dlineman or LB with the 1st rder and either a RB or DB with the 2nd rder. QB can be addressed with one of or two 3rd's.

My question is, why trade your number #12 for an unproven commodity, when you don't really know what you have as a team and a coaching staff. Why not build and then acquire FA's. What am I missing with this Trent Green scenario????

I am of two minds on this one. On one hand, I'd like to see a strong indication of DV's 'stamp' on this team. On the other, if DV is going to make a stamp, it will be in his efforts to land 'his' Qb. I have noticed his approach to QbWATG [Quarterbacks who aren't Tren Green], and he is decidely reserved [note Flutie the 'stopgap'].

Is it a done deal?

Probably.

Just because a thing should not be done does not mean it will not be done.

The old college boys,(DV & CP) love to do the circle jerk, they need a young pivot man (Green).

Need I say more ?

In this year's draft, what's the difference between a one or a two? This is a deep draft with few "superstars." I, for one, would rather draft in the second than pick the best back at 12. Bennett could be a bust. Heck, anyone at twelve could be a bust. Second rounders are a lot easier on the cap, and Trent is a good LONG TERM solution to our QB situation(Star article). I don't like giving up the third, but we do net a good qb. Do the deal, do it now!

Pitt-

It is the difference between Richard Seymour or Ennis Davis at DT.

Or Fred Smoot or Andre Dyson at CB.

Or Steve Hutchinson or Jonas Jennings at OG.

Big difference.

at RB Micheal Bennett or LaMont Jordan, this is the reason why KC wants that 2nd round pick.

Gaz,

I understand the point you're trying to make, but you're comparing 1st rounders to 3rd or 4th rounders (instead of 2nd rounders). A more likely comparison is:

Smoot to Middlebrooks
Seymour to Fatafehi
Hutchinson to Gandy

Obviously a 1st rounder has more perceived talent, but we can get a very good player at 42.

Here's an interesting article on draft positioning. (I realize that these aren't the norm, but their not really outliers either. This article doesn't deal with 2-5 round picks that have become stars.)

KevB-

Pitt asked for the difference between a 1st & a 2nd, not a 1st & a 3rd.

I took those players directly from mock drafts. They are not my ratings. They are the rankings of guys who have been doing mock drafts for years.

I realize there is always disagreement on where players will be drafted, but those names I listed were fairly consistent on several boards.

xoxo~

has no published mock draft to his name.

Yes, we might miss out on a Fred Smoot or a Gerald Warren, but what good does it do if your QB is Todd Collins?

We've been down the "good defense, awful skill position players" road before, and we already know it doesn't work for KC.

Only one problem with your implied statement Clint, why are you convinced that Trent Green is a good skill position player (and not just average)?
