Browns Release Veteran Andruzzi
Joe Andruzzi headshot By Site Staff Posted May 2, 2007 Scout.com's Adam Caplan has informed the OBR that the Browns have released OG Joe Andruzzi, a veteran who has held down the Browns left guard spot for the past two seasons. Scout.com's Adam Caplan has informed the OBR that the Browns have released OG Joe Andruzzi, a veteran who has held down the Browns left guard spot for the past two seasons. Andruzzi, who as signed along with RG Cosey Coleman prior to the 2005 season, is an eleven-year NFL veteran who came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Packers from Southern Connecticut State. After three years with the Packers, Andruzzi moved on to New England, where he was a key member of the offensive line with several Patriots Super Bowl teams. Andruzzi struggled much of 2006 with recurring knee problems, but managed to play much of the season. It was clear that his effectiveness was reduced by knee problems, leading the Browns to sign free agent Eric Steinbach to be their new starting left guard in 2007.

I'd go for him for something incredibly affordable, but he's not worth a bidding war. Hell, he's not worth a bidding skirmish.

An old guard with bad knees? Not worth giving up a young developing player to put him on the roster.

He's worth the vet minimum, especially as it doesn't count fully on the cap, I'd say, depending on the talent you have.
If he doesn't make it through camp, then he's not on the roster and gets no salary for the season. He's a solid, dependable, boring guy. I used to criticize him, when he was with the Pats, for having one "look out!" block per game. He's very likeable -- his brother was a NYC Firefighter who survived 9/11, etc., and a good solid team leader. But the Pats upgraded the position for good reason. Suffice to say I'd ONLY take him back at vet minimum, with no roster spot guaranteed.
