I Wish Dan WIlliams Was GONE

Vermeil said that defensive tackle Dan Williams is on the physically unable to perform list because of continued discomfort in his surgically repaired foot. Vermeil said Williams could be taken off the list and returned to action later in the week.... .

...I'm sure to be put right back on that list...
I realize that $$$ has a lot to do with why he's still on the team, but there has to come a point when it just doesn't matter. Hurt again...What's new there? IMO, he's baggage and to count on him for a major contribution is just plain foolish.

I agree his contributions have been minimal for the past few seasons because of injury and greed. However, our D-line is very suspect and with our thin linebacker corp and rookie secondary we need him to contribute in a big way! I hope his foot mends and he has a great year. I admit this routine is getting old...

D.Williams has to make a effort, injured or not. This is a continious cycle with Williams. I remember when Denver let him go, Broncos's said they were worried about his durability and his commitment to getting healthy...Looks like to me Dan Williams cycle will never end until released

I don't like Williams, was proud CP let him sit for a year, then damn near choked when he gave in the next. But, I think we keep him if at all possible, for one reason only, salary cap. He will not go to training camp in 02. We have to make 5 players available for the Texans expansion draft. He is at the top of my list. Among others, Crockett, Patton, Bush, we will want highly paid older players, so the Texans cannot take cheap younger ones, and we are bound to get some relief in the cap. If the Texans do not take him, we cut him June 1, 02.

I just don't understand why everyone is always so down on Patton? The guy is a consumate pro who brings his lunch pail to work everyday. And it's not like we pay him a huge salary and he still earns every penny. Whether or not he's with KC next year he is still one of the best FA pickups we've had in the last few years. Heck he's what only 34, 35 who thought Kimble Anders was too old?

Hey, if he gets healthy enough to play on 3rd down passing situations we ought to keep him, rather than wreck the cap. I think he can be on the PUP list for several games before going on IR. They will not cut him, they'll just IR him since we owe him the money anyway.

Alan - My only guess on the Patton issue is that our run D was not that strong last year, of course my opinion is that it was because the idiot Kurt had our LB's continously dropping back in coverage instead of using instinct and attacking. In other words the guys were always on the back of their heels on the run. I don't expect to see that again this year.

I too supported Carl's decision to let him sit out a year. But to then cave in after the hold out and pay Williams top dollar was insane! Talk about a player that is just milking it! This is one of the many examples of Carl making a knee jerk reaction based on a bad year. Doesnt Peterson follow the rest of the NFL??? Look how productive other holdouts were after they sat out for a year. Eric Rhett and Sean Gilbert are two examples. Both have been mediocre since they took the year off. Its decisions like that (caving into Williams) that have helped keep the Chiefs mediocre. Hopefully Carl has learned his lesson.

Let me guess...

Packfan thinks Carl made a mistake!

Putting past contract disputes aside for the moment, I have no real reason not to expect good things from Williams this year. I understyand that he played in trememdous pain last year ~ taking injections before each game so that he could play.

This problem stems from a botched surgery that was performed on his foot when he was a Donko. The sugery he had this off-season was to correct that ~ and from all reports, was apparently successful. The reports indicate that Williams being on the PUP list is precautionary and that he will be in full form soon.

Bottom Line
Only Williams and those close to him know if he's really 100%. DV made a special trip to Atlanta to talk with him and his wife before making decisions about whom to cut from the DL. If DV thinks he's worth keeping this year, I'm willing to give him a chance.

Luzap,

I will give you a "real reason" to expect poor performance from Williams. How about the fact that he has had only ONE good year in his entire career? If you believe in odds, then odds are Williams will have another mediocre/injury riddled/down taking off year.

Ken

KC couldn't cut Willams and Glock in the same offseason...the cap wouldn't allow it.

Since Williams has been head-and-shoulders above Glock, including last season, the choice was rather easy. DW will have this season to prove himself. Failure to do so will result in his release next summer IMO.

Although it is rare, when he is healthy Williams is a pretty good DT. Don't believe me, look at his numbers from last year, he isn't half as bad as people make him out to be. Sure he needs to stay healthy, but since we are paper thin at DT, even if he only plays 50% of the time it is worth it to keep him on the roster.

It seems to me like a lot of fans turn on the older players quickly. People rag on Patton, but he played at the same level as all of our other LB's last year who were lost under Kurt. I don't see people calling for Edwards' head, and he makes three times as much as Marvcus.

I originally thought it was a mistake, but it appears from the camp reports that Crockett is doing well and is a very good mentor for our young CB's and receivers.

Like Luzap, I'll give Vermeil and company every benefit of the doubt; they've earned it.

EDWARDS: No, I have not.”

Hmmm? Williams needs to get his butt out there and earn his check. He reminds me of one of those state workers you see along side the road collecting a check for getting a tan and gazing off into no where land with that deer in the headlight look. You know what I mean? Five guys standing over man hole cover with that Homer Simpson look on their faces. Williams would fit in nicely in that crowd IMHO. The difference, he is getting paid millions to PLAY FOOTBALL, which he hasn't done a great deal of. It's time he sucks it up, drag his sorry can out on the field and earns your keep Danny Boy.

The only reason he is employed is the cap, no doubt about it. The first chance the organization gets, he is going down the road.

alanm: I agree with you regarding Patton. If every player gave 100% on every play like he does the Chiefs would be headed to the playoffs on a regular basis. That is not always the case, see Dan Williams.
