That's a nice time to be there. You'll probably think it's paradise. I know I did the two summers I went. To get an accurate picture, you need to go in the spring/fall/winter.

I only spent a Thurs-Mon, and Thurs/Fri were a business trip, and I'm not sure how much time/freedom you'll have. I'd recommend hitting downtown, especially Powell's if either one of you reads much. The place is amazing. If you've got the time, head to the coast for a day. We did Portland -> Seaside -> Canon Beach -> Tiallmook -> Portland. Beautiful drive, but plan to spend a whole day doing that. I'd probably recommend bagging Seaside (think Niagra Falls, Branson, and Asbury Park had sex and the spawn settled on the west coast. Maybe not that bad, but just a tourist trap beach town.) and Tillamook (unless you or someone you know is BIG on dairy) and just do Canon Beach. Some good restaurants and a really nice wine shop there with a friendly owner. Also a great place to go to the beach. Lastly, depending on your interest and (again) time constraints, we spent one day in Seattle. Just pretty much did downtown/Pike Place Market/the Waterfront. The S.A.M. Olympic Sculpture Park is as good as advertised. Cool aquarium, more great restaurants (Alderwood Smoked Salmon is great and cheap if you're into no frills but good), cruise the sound (do the ferry to Bainbridge Island for WAAAAYYY cheaper than the overpriced tourist cruises), catch a Mariners game if you can/want...I'm sure Joe would have more/better info if you are interested in that. I gotta say, I was much more into Seattle than Portland, but ymmv.

There's a great restaurant/bar in downtown Portland off Alder called Jake's that is a Portland staple. I highly recommend checking it out. Also, if you are into cigars, you can smoke them there in the evenings and there is a great cigar shop a block away called Rich's that can set you up with some sticks.
I agree with what Chest Rockwell said about the coast - I lived there for over 5 years - it's not bad, but do plan on burning a whole day. Personally, I'd rather spend my time in downtown Portland because there is so much more to do there. |

BTW,
It might be a different Chief fan from AZ, but in case it's you who is into jambands and such: You should check out the Barley Mill, which is a Grateful Dead themed microbrewery. Also check out the Bagdad, which is a theater/microbrewery. It usually shows interesting movies, and you can eat pizza and drink beer while you watch them.
