It is unfortunate. I for one would like to see a Super Bowl being played in the elements. Snow and a howling wind would make a classic Super Bowl. But I don't think it will ever happen. The last Northern Super Bowl, I think, was Detroit and I have heard so many stories about how it was bitter cold just getting to the stadium, and that was still a dome.

Actually, 1991 Super Bowl, I believe, was in Minneapolis. They said 2 years ago in Atlanta it was actually comparable in Temperature to either Super Bowl in Minneapolis or Detroit.

The problem with the Rolling Roof is that while it would keep the elements out, there would be no way to control the temprature inside, since you couldn't seal it up. So it would still be freezing inside the stadium, even though everyone would be dry. I've got no problems with that, but the NFL and their corproate sponsors do. That's problem 1.
Problem 2, according to the NFL, is that KC needs more hotels. Apparently the accomodations in KC are either not plentiful enough, not up to standards, or both. Problem 3, according to the NFL, there are not enough golf courses around here, and the temprature is not condusive to playing golf. Why the NFL cares about golf courses I don't know, but that was mentioned last year in the article in the Star about this topic. So short of building a new stadium, KC will never see a Super Bowl, or for that matter a MLB All Star Game... |

Why would Kansas City hold an MLB All-Star game?
They won't even have a team 2 or 3 years from now... |

Now see, there you go with that negativity again. I'm going to have to open a big ol' can of whup a$$ now due to that comment!
2-3 years from now, Chris George and Chad Durbin will be the anchor for one of the best young staffs in baseball, Mike Sweeny will be entering the 2nd year of a long term deal he signed with the Royals after the new labor agreement, Dee Brown and Mark Quinn will be hitting their stride, and the Royals will be what the Oakland A's are today. LONG LIVE THE ROYALS! REMEMBER NUMBER FIVE! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN! :) ;) :p :D |

I'm not worried about the Royals leaving, I'm worried about MLB falling apart because they don't make a new labor agreement.
The Royals aren't going anywhere though. |

Oh, well if MLB falls apart, hey, life's tough. As long as the NFL doesn't go anywhere...

The Royals aren't going anywhere,
literally. ;)
As far as an all-star game, there is only 1 reason it's not coming to KC: the only requirements are that you either have to be a big-market team, or have a new stadium.

Once Muser is fired, the Royals will be fine. We have tremendous young pitching talent and sturdy defense to go with it, as well as a couple of talented power hitters in double and triple A ball. The days of slap-hitting DHs will be over (finally).
A new labor agreement is the only way we'll be able to compete on a longterm basis though, because Glass won't dish out more than 40 million or so at this point, which I understand. No matter how much he is willing to pay for a team, the big market teams will outdo him by 50 to 100 million. That's just the way it is... I don't think we'll ever see a labor agreement though and no salary cap means MLB will die. Not many people want to see the 4-6 same teams competing for the World Series annually. |
