Manning's prank on Jay Cutler goes awry
Peyton Manning threw Jay Cutler's diabetes monitor in the pool
By MJD And then, for extra laughs, Peyton drove around to various nursing homes in the Honolulu area, unplugging oxygen machines and slathering canes and walkers in Crisco. I kid, I kid. Peyton doesn't have any hatred of the elderly or disease-ridden. As it turns out, he destroyed Jay Cutler's blood sugar monitor (Cutler's a type 1 diabetic) by mistake. As part of all the zany Pro Bowl hijinx, Peyton meant to throw Cutler's cell phone in the pool as a part of some Pro Bowl rookie initiation. Here's how it went down, courtesy of the Denver Post: The gang of Pro Bowl football players had been gathered around the tables, swapping stories, when suddenly the Broncos' quarterback had 300-pound Nick Mangold pushing from one side, 310-pound Kris Dielman holding the other and his cell phone swindled into the hands of a coy Peyton Manning.Oops indeed. In their defense, though, some blood sugar monitors do look slightly cell-phone-esque. Fortunately, Cutler took it all in stride and was able to make a few calls and get a new monitor quickly. If I was him, I would have started faking stomach cramps and pretending to lose my eyesight, while screaming that I could die without my monitor. But that's just me, and I like to teach people lessons that will stick for a lifetime. |

Damnit, Peyton. You almost succeeded in killing him. Better luck next time.

they should apologize, give him a modified one, where it actually gives false readings..that would be an awesome, and a humanistic, prank.

I think the blog's headline is wrong. It sounds to me like they threw Cutler into the pool, and he had his diabetes thing in his pocket when they did it.
They obviously forgot to attach the anvil.

Yeah, they grabbed his phone to keep it from going in the pool when they threw him in. Kind of sad when you don't even understand the story you're writing about.

My roommate is a type 1 diabetic...he was diagnosed around 6th grade...we're the same age as Jay Cutler...
Anyways... He was an all-state RB in high school, so he was a pretty athletic dude... If this guy didn't inject himself two or three times a day I would never have known he had diabetes...ever. I mean, I knew because I was there when he was diagnosed...everyone thought he was dying...but most of our college friends have no idea. He drinks, we play any intramural sport...everything...he eats what he wants...he realizes he's a terrible diabetic but you've got to live a little, right? Anyways he says he could get his blood sugar correct within 10 points or so everytime without that monitor thing... In fact, he said he hasn't pricked his finger or used one of the fancy ones Cutler has since about 6 months into being diagnosed when he was 12. What I'm trying to say is...once you get the injection scheduling down and realize the feeling when you're too high or too low...you don't need that thing...so it's not like it's a vital part of a diabetics life... |
