It's about value.

Pioli doesn't seem like the type to just go along with the masses when it comes to the draft. Aaron Currey is the favorite in most mock drafts but is his value worth the investment? Looking at the franchise numbers for all positions says a lot about which positions are valued the most.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...o&confirm=true this is a list of the franchise numbers for all positions, With QB being highest at 14.65, CB 9.96, WR 9.88, DE 8.99, OL 8.45, LB 8.3, RB 6.62, S 6.34, DT 6.06, TE 4.46, K/P 2.48.

I have no idea who we will take but aside from QB there is not much drop off between positions in the next 5.

IMO Everette Brown is shooting up most boards so I could see him at #3. Great pass rusher, has size to work in 4-3 as DE, or 3-4 as OLB. Curry wouldn't be bad either if he has the same abilities, but his pass rush ability hasn't really been shown much at Wake Forest being the SAM backer.

There is a huge difference between NFL value and the value engrained to the fanbase on players for the Chiefs...

Lets take a look here.
NFL = QB 14.65
CP = QB -10.25*

NFL = CB 9.96
CP = CB 9.96*

NFL = WR 9.88
CP = WR 4.55*

NFL = DE 8.99
CP = DE 15.96*

NFL = OL 8.45
CP = 25.36* (Especially RG)

NFL = LB 8.3
CP = LB 26.35*

NFL = RB 6.62
CP = RB 10.65*

NFL = S 6.34
CP = S 7.20*

NFL = DT 6.06
CP = DT 14.27*

NFL = TE 4.46
CP = TE 4.46*

NFL = K/P 2.48
CP = K/P 2.48*

*These numbers are speculation and opinions, they do not reflex the opinions of the GM and HC of the Kansas City Chiefs. They are not fact based on speculation.

Do you think we will use him as a 43 de or 34 lb?

Assuming we play 4-3, sure. Who knows what we're going to do at this point, but his natural position is probably 3-4 OLB.

We aren't going to just completely switch to the 3-4 in a matter of months.

Pioli will trade down and get more picks. Probably get that 2nd rounder back as well.

Maybe but I doubt it. However the 2 players I think they have the best chance of taking play the positions we are loading up at for depth.
