So I just sent BP a solution to stop the oil leak

I may be a hero. I'll let you know!

Can anybody tell me how much pressure is at that depth ?

But to answer your question, at 5,000' deep, you're looking at around 2,300 pounds pressure per square inch.

Why can't they use a half clamp to stop the flow then use a underwater blowtorch to seal the half clamp then find a permanent way to fix it?

They could use the money that they made in the last six months to soak it all up.

I'm thankfully moving back to MO in a week, but right now I live in the Florida panhandle. The oil has not gotten to the beaches here yet, but it is likely just a matter of time. The hotels, resorts, and restaurants are all in full panic down here now. It has also ruined the offshore fishing and that pisses me off.

It also pisses me off that the video posted above was filmed in the same county I live in right now. While the idea of using hay/straw may not be the worst idea, seeing Jim-Bob in his bib overalls probably won't instill confidence in the potential tourists. I mean, why go all the way to Florida when you can go to Alabama and see guys that look like that?

even if you submitted a fantastic idea, 10:1 BP steals it and you get no credit.

The fact that they have the suggestion page, tells me they have no freaken clue how to stop it. I hope someone's idea works in the near future. I read a report yesterday that this thing is likely to keep gushing for another 2 months, "if" their latest best plan works. If that turns out to be the case, this incident is going to make the Exxon Valdez oil breach look like a walk in the park.

Were it not for a pending situation at home, I'd be down there doing some work today. May be down there working in a week or two if things work out. I'll pass it on.

I do think ground hay would be a good solution for cleanup.....and then burn it.

You know what pisses me off? assholes like you who dismiss "jim-bob" because he's in working man's clothes. Some of the most inventive, creative, solution makers on this planet are "jim bob" farmers. I've got an uncle who if he put his mind to it could probably build a solar car with duct tape, bailing wire, pliers, a wire welder and some scrap iron.

Simple, effective, sustainable, natural....never work, no big money to be made by anyone but hay haulers and farmers.
