Man wrecks Lamborghini hours after winning it in a contest
http://www.insantaquin.com/2011/12/1...-in-santaquin/ A Lamborghini Murcielago crashed Saturday evening, six hours after its Santaquin owner won it in a contest. Nobody was injured in the accident that took place around 7:00 p.m. The car was the prize of a Maverik/ teamgive.org ”Joe Schmo to Lambo” contest, and its new owner, David Dopp, officially drove it for the first time on Saturday when teamgive.org and Maverik presented it to him at an afternoon event. Several hours later Dopp was driving it northbound in Santaquin on South Ridge Farms Road between the Kars gas station and The Big Red Barn when the car spun out of control, sending the lime green Lamborghini into a field west of the road. His friend was in the passenger seat at the time. “We came around that corner and just started spinning,” said Dopp. He said he thinks he might have hit did a patch of black ice or gravel. Police say the wreck happened just after dark, and a witness said he saw the Lamborghini sitting off the road in the field before the cops arrived at around 6:50 p.m. A witness, Miles Davis from Santaquin, said the skid marks from the car were visible on the road and that the car seemed to have landed facing the opposite direction from the way the vehicle had been traveling. According to police, the car spun out of control and went over a curb before coming to rest in a field 75 feet off of the road embankment. Officer Allen Hansen from the Santaquin Police Department was at the scene. He told inSantaquin News that alcohol was not a factor and that the accident was likely “speed-related.” At the time of the crash, Hansen said the vehicle was moving at “speeds too fast for conditions.” Dopp told Santaquin Police he was going 40-50 mph before he lost control. Speed limit is posted at 35 mph on that section of road.Although Dopp was not cited at the incident, a case will be submitted to the courts to review possible charges. Hansen feels the driver was “not used to the supercar.” The all-wheel drive roadster has a top speed of 205 mph and is valued at more than $300,000. Damage to the car includes a puncture in the oil pan from a fence post, damage to the rear bumper, and exterior scratches. Dopp, a truck driver for Frito-Lay, is no stranger to the road. “I’m a pretty good driver,” he said in a phone interview today. “I drive for a living.” He said he was just wanted to make the day special for his family and friends. “I was just trying to be a nice guy,” said Dopp. “Trying to make it a good experience.” Less than six hours passed between the time Dopp was given the keys and the time of the accident. He described the day as an “emotional roller coaster.” Earlier in the day, Dopp posted an apology on Facebook for driving too fast in his new ride. “Just had Santaquin Police called on me for driving too fast. SORRY !!!! ,” it reads. He said after that post he wanted to make sure he wasn’t driving anywhere near people, so he drove out to Santaquin’s sparsely populated south end. Hansen said he spoke with Dopp before the accident and told him to “make sure to follow all traffic laws.” Hansen feels it would be difficult for anybody in a car like Dopp’s to keep off of the gas. “It’s a super-light car, built out of carbon fiber with Z-rated tires,” said Hansen. “It’s a crazy fast car.” Police were notified of the wreck by an unidentified witness who saw the Lamborghini go off the road. Santaquin resident Jeff Hendershot, who knows Dopp from town, was at the Kars gas station today and was shocked to hear about the accident. “It’s way sad,” said Hendershot. “It’s kind of ironic you know, he just got that car.” Dopp says the vehicle had full insurance coverage and that it is on its way to Las Vegas now where Lamboghini specialists will determine repair costs. |

Yeah, because driving a Frito Lay truck is EXACTLY like driving a Lambo.

He's screwed either way.
The taxes on that car will be staggering. As will the insurance (especially now). If he's extremely lucky, they'll total the thing and he'll walk with a $100K for his trouble. If not, he's going to have a devalued supercar and a massive tax bill on his hands in short order. This dude is probably pretty screwed here...

There was a case a while back about a guy who got his Ferrari stolen. The FBI recovered it, then they totaled it taking it for a joyride. His insurance went after the feds to recoup their money. They ended up losing their case. The judge said they weren't responsible for it.

I know the guy that owns the OP Ford dealership. He told me a story of some guys buying a Shelby. They pulled out of the dealership (there on Metcalf), stomped on the gas, fishtailed it and ran it into the median immediately.

A friend of mine is the manager of the local Harley Davidson dealership. Some old boy was test driving a new bike and hit the gas, rather than the brake. He shot over the top of the road and strained himself and the bike through a barb wire fence, He had to go in for numerous stitches and the bike had a lot of damage. KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS.

I wonder what the property taxes and insurance would be on that.
If you won something like that, do you have to pay sales tax on it? |
