My first reaction was "of course they will", but then I read through the text. What does happen if Mahomes gets injured and the Chiefs end up not winning the west? How do they get the money back?

Nope, if somehow the Raiders won the West then they would have paid out on both the Chiefs and the Raiders in the "to win the AFC West" market.

They know what their liability is, and the % chance that the Chiefs don't win. If they had to double pay out, they would just call it a marketing expense.

Yeah, the marketing expense thing is probably spot on. What's the payout for betting something as ridiculously obvious as the Chiefs winning the division? Probably not too bad.

Seems kind of strange considering that the Chiefs have only played one AFC-W team thru 4 weeks.

They've seen enough of the other teams to know they can't hang.

Sure, but never heard of the books just giving away money before.

Wait. So they closed the book on the AFC-W champion, so no one can bet on it anymore. Now I get it. Never mind.

turning out to be a weak division Chiefs excluded.
Raiders are toast... but probably 2nd in AFCW, whatever thats worth 7-9, 8-8. Chargers are a close 3rd and then poor Denver.

Fivethirtyeight gives the odds of them winning the division at 95%.

There's a well known Irish bookie who does this relatively regularly, as a promotion/advertisement, it makes a splash every time they do it and gets them attention.

No idea if the book is closed but this will only apply to bets already placed, Did you think you could bet now and instantly be paid out a winner?
