Am I crazy for not liking the decision to go deep to Hill?

I’m on my phone, sorry for the lack of embed [help from a mod would be appreciated], but look at this play design:

https://twitter.com/sethwalder/statu...606545920?s=21

I’m actually not thrilled at that play.

And I think it’s honestly the difference between Mahomes (who’s great) and Brady (who is the greatest).

Brady will take that dump off to Williams 10 times out of 10 until defenses play it honestly. Chew up 7 yards at a time, never take a risk, and control the game. Next time Hill is open, the odds of another defender cheating deep to punish him will be low.

Mahomes is an ambitious predator, always looking for the kill shot. But he did it at the expense of Hill’s health here.

Sometimes the kill shot is there, but the dump off is always there and Brady will always take it. That’s why he’s so consistent in the postseason, where risky behavior can kill you as often as it wins for you.

No. We are a power running team with an elite QB.

That play should have been a run - preferably to one of our slow running backs.

You have to establish the run to open up the deep shots.

It's throws like that which make Mahomes better than Brady.

Those plays open everything else up.

Look at the quick march after Kelce's first reception in traffic busted everything open today.

3 more explosive plays in order and we're in the EZ.

The injury thing is just bad hindsight, IMO... it's not like he was throwing a ball over the middle where you could clearly see him hanging out his receiver to get decapitated.

That's an elite, very few people in the world can and will make that throw, kind of throw... and you don't neuter that.

Steve Kerr had a great quote about Steph Curry in a recent article I read that essentially said "Curry throws up shots that coaches are taught to train out of athletes, but with Curry you have to accept that the rules are different for him..and just not accept it, but embrace it".

Patrick is built the same way.

It is amazing how many coaches over the years have ruined athletes because they didn't conform to the average standard.

This is the moment Kerr learned that. The very moment. It was in Curry's first truly extraordinary year. Watching it live, you went through the same emotions as Kerr, and immediately came to accept that Curry was different.

For the record, I have thought of this moment many times as we watched Mahomes' ascent.
