I wonder how many hours...

I wonder how many hours Travis has stared at this exact web page with a calculator figuring out what he needs to do to pass Tony.

I for one have cumulatively thought about this an insane amount over the past few years.

he need one more 1000 yrd then 4 800 to 850 season to beat tony which is doable.

he strikes me as the type of guy who wants to beat that record, or any big record. When Gronk was on his podcast he sounded like he really likes breaking records and wanted Gronk's TD record but didn't get there.

I think he'll have to go faster than that. He'd be 38 when he crosses that line. And he's had 10 surgeries, including three to his right shoulder alone.

I don't think he'll be playing in 5 years.

I don't think it matters. For 2 reasons. #1, I think Hollywood will be calling for him with 50-100 million dollars per year sooner than he can pass Tony's stats. #2, looking that the stats, Travis has amassed 2/3rd's of Tony's yards in just over 1/2 the time. There is no question from me.

Travis is the greatest TE the NFL has ever seen.

If you think Travis Kelce is hanging up his pads early to become an actor you’re out of your mind. The Kelce brothers live and breathe football. They both couldn’t even think of what a plan B was for their lives because all they ever wanted to do was play football. Both of them are leaving every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears on the field that they can muster the strength to give. Hollywood could offer him a 1 billion dollar contract, but Kelce will make sure they plan it around his off-season. He may not catch Tony, but I’d put a lot more money on the likelihood of that happening than him stepping away early to pursue acting. I think he’s here as long as Andy is here and I think both of them are loving this run too much to even think about getting off now.

I think Travis would hang them up for the right opportunity.

I think the money Hollywood can offer, and that goes beyond just the idea of just being an actor will be hard to turn down.

A team offers 5 million more than any other team for a player. That money would be hard to turn down for any player. Rightfully so. Vice versa I think turning down 35+ million more a year would be even harder.

At the end of the day it's just silly stats that mean little. He is a first ballot hall of famer, has multiple championships, seen by his peers as one of the best ever at his position, if not the best ever. What else does he really need to accomplish?

I think Travis is smart enough to realize that he has a smaller window to be an NFL tight end and a much larger window to pursue Hollywood or whatever the **** he wants to do after he can’t play football anymore. If you think his career is just filled with silly stats that mean little to him then you haven’t been paying attention to the type of person Kelce is. Football is everything to him and I guarantee if you offer him a chance at being the unanimous best tight end to ever play the game (based on those silly little stats) or a 20 billion dollar job judging Victoria secret model competitions he’s taking the Tight End option every single time. When you’re rich and successful it is a lot harder to tempt you with buckets of cash to leave the thing you love most. He’s not getting persuaded by any job in Hollywood to leave his first and only love.

He's made a ton of money in the NFL and it's a game that he loves. Once he hangs them up, then he knows he's done for good and will never play again. No amount of money is going to pull him away from football. That's actually one of the dumber things I've ever heard. He's on limited time with football, but he has the rest of his life to act, if that's even what he wants to do.

Look at his monologue on SNL. He said something about being on SNL was the most exciting thing that ever happened to him. He got a laugh and then said something about how nothing compares to winning the Super Bowl. That sounds like a man dedicated to playing football to me. Then, just listen to any of his mic'd up games. He really enjoys himself out there. I think he's good for at least 5 more years.

It is dumb thing to realize that a substantial increase in pay is not an easy thing to turn down? What makes you think all these guys want to play till middle age wearing down their bodies into a pulp chasing yardage stats? The idea that they love the game is the main reason keeping them playing football is built in kid dreams and fandumb.

I never said any thing about being an actor. I could see Travis Kelce taking on Michael Strahan/Ryan Seacrest type gigs. Great feel for the moment, smooth delivery, great off the cuff. Unless you have been under a rock, the initiation for him out of sports into entertainment has already begun.

I threw together a quick spread sheet to play around with this
Travis has a career average of 71.83 yds/gm. Last season it was 78.7 Yds/Gm

At these averages it will take:

2 Seasons to pass Gates- 1.23/1.12 (71.83 Avg/78.7 Avg)
3 Seasons to Pass Witten- 2.21/2.02
4 Season to pass TG-3.92/3.58

Its completely doable but he will need to stay healthy, His production is way above his peers. TG had the next highest average Yds/game at 56.

It's pretty awesome that KC will have had 2 of the most prolific TE in the history of the sport!

I love Travis, but I'm not sure he's the type to use a calculator for much of anything. If he's aware of the pace he needs to be on, it's because someone's told him.
