Cataracts

Anyone have cataract surgery? My right eye is screwed and the eye doc suggest surgery. Moving on 62 now and I don't know if it will be worth it.

And incidentally, yes, I have had cataract surgery in my left eye. I was early 50's when I had it done, so a bit on the young side to have the procedure, but it's saved me from having to wear glasses ever since. The procedure is quick and pretty much painless (the prep takes the longest amount of time, the surgery itself was maybe 20 minutes long), and within a couple of hours I could see clearly out of that eye. I'll eventually need to get the other one done, but for now, everything is great.

TL;DR - I would recommend you get it done

Had one done last fall. It's actually a pretty quick and easy surgery once you get past the idea of somebody cutting and peeling away the top layer of your eyeball to replace the lens. While you're semi-awake and listening to the entire procedure. It took around 24 hours of recovery time wearing an eye patch, and my vision was just as good as before the cataract symptoms. Haven't noticed any issues since.

Before surgery, when looking through my red dot gun optics I was seeing a funky crescent moon shaped starburst pattern instead of a defined dot. Driving at night caused lots of glare. After surgery, I see a perfect dot again. Night driving is no issue anymore. I'm glad I had it done. I'm a bit younger though, so I'm not sure how much age is a factor. I got my cataract early in life as a result of an injury I had as a teen poking my eye with an icepick.

My sister, 60 yrs old, just had both her eyes done about 6 weeks ago. She says it is so great as she had really bad vision and now no glasses for nearsightedness.

My younger brother had his done 20 years ago.

I am going under the knife for both eyes, right eye first in late June or early July.

I have an occlusion, a macular pucker and a prior retinal detachment in my right eye with a scleral buckle. I have been getting steroid shots in my right eye every 8-10 weeks and the pressure has increased due to the steroid. Glaucoma and cataracts. They are going to laser open my eye drainage and add a shunt at the bottom.

I'm going to be 62 in June so it sounds like we have a similar glide path.

Good luck, pretty routine these days.

I had both eyes done about 2 years ago. It was a very easy process. The actual surgery took about 10 minutes, if that.

I had a rapid form of cataracts and the surgery was a Godsend. If not for surgery I would be nearly blind by now. As it is, I have excellent vision (I do need readers for small print).

Not a personal experience but my former boss, now retired but he's doing contract work for us so I still see him once or twice a week, had both eyes done and he is supremely satisfied. It took a bit to get used to seeing him without glasses though.

I had lens replacement surgery done last June on both eyes and haven't regretted it. As another poster stated, once you get over the fact that they are operating on your eye, it is really a simple process. Had to wear a patch over my eye for 24 hours, no strenuous physical activity for 10 days and that was it.

The one downside is that if you get a multifocal lens (like a bifocal or trifocal) you may see halos around car headlights etc when driving at night.

IF I had to do it again, I'd go with a single focal lens, set for far vision, and use a cheap pair of readers for anything close-up. No halos with that setup

My sister told me the same exact thing after her surgery. She has a trifocal in one, she has halos, and a bifocal that is much better.

My doctor already told me that due to all the other issues in my eye that I will have a singular lens for distance. No worries wearing readers.
