Mansionmania Tournament: Round 2, Heat 14

Mansionmania continues with our 32 2nd-round contestants. You will choose among each pair of houses with the following assumptions:
  • The purchase price for you is $0.
  • All maintenance, utilities, property taxes, HOA fees, and cleaning is included.
  • You must live in the home for the rest of your life.
  • You can't travel more than 100 miles from home (via google maps drive time) other than 1 two-week vacation each year.
  • You get $250,000 per year as a living allowance
  • You get an additional living allowance at the cheaper home, which will be valued at 1% of any cost difference annually. I will note this amount in the poll.
  • You get the furnishings. If unfurnished, you get an allowance that will give you mid-grade furniture in every room.
  • You get any vehicles in the garage. But only the garage - nothing parked outside.

I encourage you to click on the maps in the listings to see the general location and neighborhood.

Also, I will only enter contestants if they have a sufficient number of photos to judge, as determined by me.

Your entries in this heat are:

We have two very good contenders here, in my opinion.

Florida is on the Gulf Coast, and the house has a nice style. If you're a boater I bet you'd enjoy exploring the natural areas south of the house. The winters are mild, but you can't reach a city of 100,000 people or more. The best you can do is Fort Myers at about 80,000. The house is on the small side for a mansion, though still plenty big at 8,000 square feet.

Maryland, on the other hand, is a brawny 35,000 square feet. You get a great indoor pool and access to Washington, Baltimore, and the Delaware beach communities. The Annapolis climate is actually very nice, with mild winters and mild summers that still give you seasons. The interior design isn't my style, but with a $545,050 annual stipend I could make redecorating into my fun new hobby. Plus I like that little illegal diving board above the outdoor pool.

Maryland for me. I'm really surprised at how nice the climate looks there.

Yeah, I'm out on eating dinner at 4 PM and gators. The Maryland house is more my style and it has more going for it than the money. Did anyone notice the cars and the bar? Not all that appears to be wine. Bring the car around, Jeeves, we must attend an event in Washington.

Maryland.

I'm not built to sweat all year around. I don't think I would enjoy the Florida climate.
I'll take Maryland and the stipend and the indoor pool.

Florida for me again. Interestingly, this is the worst Florida home in the tournament, IMO, but it's actually in the best location. The Gulf side beaches of Florida are unmatched in beauty (in the US anyway).

I figured the Tony Montana Cocaine Retreat would be the automatic answer for me, but I think I'm going with the Maryland house. I'll have to spruce up the inside, but I might be hanging at the indoor pool too much to care.

I'd go nuts in one of these overly formal homes. Sorry, but I can't even see my self in a place like that. It would be like living in a museum.

The key is to find a really comfortable smoking jacket.

On the virtual tour it looks like the Maryland property has a full size church 40 seconds in.

I still haven't decided.

The description mentions that the chapel was turned into a ballroom. So as the second owner, I don't think you go to hell for that. It's just the person who made the change.
