Nate Taylor: Chiefs targeting OT Ronnie Stanley in free agency

Quote:
When free agency begins, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle available on the market, according to sources. Stanley, who will turn 31 this month, started all 17 season games last season for the Baltimore Ravens. He earned a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and allowed just three sacks.

Oh, we're absolutely going to get used by Stanley's reps to get more money out of the Patriots.

*assuming he even makes it to market

I was wondering the same thing. It makes the most logical sense.

If he hits the market he’s a Chief, cause that to me says Baltimore isn’t offering enough money to stay.

Like it or not, this team is going to pay whatever it takes to get LT answered in a resounding way.

I hear the concerns about the injury history — Duncan is right in that it really was only one really severe leg injury that took a long while to recover from but now it seems that’s behind him.

A guy like Ronnie Stanley staying healthy is our only realistic chance at securing an elite left tackle that Mahomes doesn’t remotely question behind his back. That’s worth some extra money.

Horseshit. We didn't get "played", by Trent Williams. We lost a bidding war. But even if I gave you that, name any other time that's happened under Veach. I'll wait...

The Chiefs sign guys in the first wave of free agency all of the time. It would not at all be shocking for them to do it again with Stanley.

I think they will get Trey done this weekend so they can confirm what the parameters of a contract need to be for whatever tackle they go after.

If Trey doesn’t get done I’d be shocked.

Once you tagged him at $23M, you’ve made it clear you’re willing to pay him higher than any guard. So just get the damn deal done and relieve the cap.
