I'll give them credit now, though. They have done what so many NFL teams, past and present, refuse to do. Which is to look at their WC round ceiling QB and to have the following internal conversation:

"Is our QB good enough to win a Super Bowl?"

"Nah, I don't think so"

"Then what the **** are we gonna pay him $40 million (or whatever) for?'

"Good point. Let's find a shitty team with a retro coach that thinks this dude is actually good"

3r pick is way too much for a bridge qb.

It's not a bad move for The Raiders.

You have to remember-their coach is in his 70's.

Giving up a 3rd for decent QB play short-term isn't bad at all.

Even in a full rebuild, would they really trade away a 24 year old LT?

Raiders' blockbuster trade for Geno Smith opens up the path for rival Chiefs to secure their left tackle of the future

The Las Vegas Raiders' blockbuster deal to acquire Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith might have just helped the Kansas City Chiefs find their left tackle of the future.

All signs point toward a major overhaul in Seattle this offseason. They've reversed course on Smith, said goodbye to veteran WR Tyler Lockett, and are entertaining trade inquiries on star WR DK Metcalf. It all begs the question, who else could be available in trade?

The Chiefs need to find a long-term solution for the left tackle position. It's not a secret, but it's also apparent that they lack many viable options via free agency. It just so happens that Seahawks LT Charles Cross is entering the final year of his rookie deal. But could he possibly be available? At the right price, anyone is available in the NFL.

It would make a lot of sense for Seattle to shop Cross. He'll command a top-of-market contract extension in 2026, and your organization no longer has a franchise quarterback. He might also simply not want to play for a team without one.

It would be epically reeruned for Seattle to give up a good LT just because they are reloading.

That is a HUGE piece of a rebuild they already have. Why in the hell would they let him walk?

Stupid.

(Also, on what planet is a trade for Geno Smith blockbuster?!)

Bridge QB. Raiders will still draft a QB this year or next. Geno and Darnold the only OK QBs available so.....meh. I dont think Carroll is a dummy but I'll wait and see

Well, it would appear that they will be in position to draft one. And it would appear that they're stockpiling picks. Do they want to start the clock on a LT, or do they want to pay Cross top of the market?

I thought this idea was the dumbest thing anyone had come up with...until they shipped Geno out. Now I'm not so sure. Looks like a firesale.

No, I don't think he's a dummy, and I think he wanted a guy he was comfortable with.

He's only going to coach a few more years, tops. He's thinking very short term.

He's a legit NFL QB. That's more than half of the teams have, in my opinion. That qualifies. I'd take Geno before I'd pay Darnold $40m.

And I'm not so sure on Cross now. If they want to start a new clock on paying a LT, they'll be in position to draft one next year for sure. This looks like a tank job.

Having the Raiders being a mid-tier team is good for the Chiefs...they play the Broncos/Chargers twice a year. It also takes them out of the running to get a top QB prospect.

When you dig a little deep and think about it, if it weren't for Geno Smith we may never have had Travis Kelce. At least not playing TE.

Football is more fun when the Raiders are pretty good.

It's hard to hate them when they're just pathetic.

Not a bad play really.

Andy Reid came to the Chiefs then traded away two 2nd round picks for Smith and turned the team around. Pete might be able to pull off the same stunt.

The Raiders now have a stable coach, OC, and QB play. They're really going to have to beef up the rest of the team if they want any chance at the AFC WEST.

They have cap space and draft picks to accomplish that goal. They really haven't made a questionable move yet.
