That was Alan "Scoop" Eskew, a beat reporter for the Topeka Capital-Journal. You can hear McRae utter "Scoop" in regret after he realizes he hurt a reporter he liked. That is at about 52 seconds into the video, about two seconds before we see Eskew bleeding. Eskew considers McRae a favorite player, as do I. Years later, when McRae was coaching the Rays and was visiting Royal Stadium, Scoop showed up wearing a catchers mask, and they laughed about it.
