A source within the otherwise impenetrable walls of One Arrowhead Drive advises that the Chiefs have fired this morning offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Gailey survived the initial purge of assistant coaches after Todd Haley was hired in February.

It's unclear what has changed between then and now.

Scapegoat doesn't make that much sense though because no one cares about the preseason. By letting him go now, they've lost their potential scapegoat for a poor offensive regular season. It's on Haley now, more than ever.

wtf? totally unexpected.

Chan's offense sucked at the beginning of last year too, but he got it back on track after Thigpen got the nod.

Perhaps Chan couldn't do as much with the "pocket-passer" type QB as Haley wanted.

I don't. This is a stupid as firing Trey Hillman. Chan and Trey have been rendered totally irrelelavant. Sure Trey does some dumb things as I'm sure Chan does, but how the hell do you blame them when the organization sends them into a gun fight with a knife, on hand tied behind their back, and wearing a blindfold. You are only as good as your options. Neither coach has many. Firing them is window dressing at best. They aren't the problem. A lack of talent is..........this is stupid. If this is true, Haley is wanting results and won't stand for any mediocrity like this organizations has stood for during the Carl and Herm era.

Maybe Chan told Haley that the o linemen we had on the roster would be fine/o.k. for the 2009 season.

Here's what I like about this.

*Haley could have let Chan hang around until the end of the season and then Fired him and used him as a scapegoat for our upcoming 3-13 season. Instead he took the bull by the horns and made the call right away. It may be to his ultimate detriment, but I respect the hell out of Haley for running this thing his way.
