Chiefs fire Chan

Source: Chiefs chop Chan Gailey
Posted by Mike Florio on August 31, 2009 11:04 AM ET
A source within the otherwise impenetrable walls of One Arrowhead Drive advises that the Chiefs have fired this morning offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Gailey survived the initial purge of assistant coaches after Todd Haley was hired in February.

It's unclear what has changed between then and now.

More to come.

Wait, wait, I got it. Due to collective bargaining agreement, Chan is not elligible to play and coach at the same time. Chans the new right tackle. You heard it here first.

Chan Gailey Relieved of Duties as Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

Aug 31, 2009, 10:30:29 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator. Gailey’s status with the club will be addressed by head coach Todd Haley following the conclusion of today’s practice. Gailey originally joined the Chiefs in 2008. Hillman is so bad I long for Buddy Bell.

Haley is a better OC than Gailey ever was.

Good enough?

Holy Crap! We go from a regime that won't fire or get rid of anyone to one that cans everything and anyone. I guess Haley wants to be the new Bill Parcells.

WOW!

Just wow.

Gailey did offset some of Herm's sucktitude, but I don't think he was a miracle worker.

I do think that Chan is superior to Haley doing both and Carthon doing...anything. We'll see.

I'm not too high on the move. If there were irreconcilable differences, they should have been addressed earlier.

Minus a broken jaw (the Faid still crack me up!), I don't really see anything that they couldn't have found earlier.

I thought that was kind of the idea before. If this helps get rid of Thigpen faster then I'm ok with it.

It didn't take long for Haley to realize he's sitting on one of the most talent-starved rosters in the league. He's been unhappy with his quarterbacks and receivers and plans to lean more heavily on the running game. We still think the Chiefs will pass quite a bit, but this is an offense to avoid in fantasy leagues."
And Herm said the roster was 85% complete...
