A source within the otherwise impenetrable walls of One Arrowhead Drive advises that the Chiefs have fired this morning offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Gailey survived the initial purge of assistant coaches after Todd Haley was hired in February.

It's unclear what has changed between then and now.

Yea Reid has always had an OC that designs the gameplan for him.

At times you can judge a head coach by the coaches he surrounds himself with. Haley is 0-2 in the coordinator department.

Thats probably whats funny about it. I think he can handle HC and OC. But throwing on QB coach on top of it all just sounds like too much.

We have a QB coach in training though. A guy named Nick Sirianni

He probably won't be doing it next year, because he'll probably hire an OC of his own choosing as soon as possible.

Luckily Todd is a hard worker. I dont think he will get lazy and not want to gameplan correctly.

Herm could have never been a HC and DC at the same time.

I don't buy that.

Chan Gailey is 57 years old. He knows by now the politics involved in working the NFL.

A think a reported salary in excess of $1 million dollars factored into the decision of initially retaining Gailey.

I suppose they wanted to take the "wait and see" approach, but I'm not sure what they really learned about him during pre-season games that don't count for anything.

This is VERY curious timing. Especially when you have just 1 week left before you need to start scheming for Game 1. This isn't a great time to move someone over to the role. I'm guessing that'll be Carthon (as a figurehead OC).

Maybe they had a big blow up?

I doubt this was it... Pioli and Belichick are based off of hiring guys that jell with coaches around eachother. Pioli would have never made Haley keep Gailey if they disagreed and had different theorys.
