Relo Back to KC

I think I would like to move back to KC and raise my kids there. Education system in Arizona is a fracking joke. Same for politics out here as well. Weather is nice but there are just some things more important than sunny conditions year round. Without any smart-ass jokes what is the job market and housing market like in KC?

Hate to burst your bubble but the minorities are bringing test scores down. It's becoming a problem and I see this turning into Grandview East within the decade.
Also, I think there's legislation in the works that's somehow allowing kids form other failing districts to attend other schools in other districts.

maybe, but its not now. right now its one of the best in the nation. One of the best school districts in the nation is going to attract a lot people that want in on the education.

My son's graduating class will have 94.6% of all 1400+ students attend college. Some have academic scholorships to West Point, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford etc. No complaints from me.

Interesting... it's been 12 years since I graduated from there, just before the district split between PHHS and Park Hill South. I wouldn't be all that surprised though, because we had our share of problems, and I wouldn't have called it a great school when I was there.

I grew up in da hood... 91st and James A Reed. It was quite the culture shock going from Ervin Jr High in the Hickman Mills district to Lakeview Middle School in Park Hill.

I disagree. We moved into the district 2 1/2 years ago just for the schools, and it's been great. My son will start high school next year, so we'll see then if it holds up.

As for the overall area, it's become a traffic nightmare and is a major pain in the ass with Zona Rosa, but I don't see it reflected in the neighborhood yet. Yeah, there's been some minorities move in, but there's still no swimming pools in the driveways, so all's good so far.

That wasn't the hood. (depending on when you grew up). That's my old area... We moved out that way coming from the "real hood" (31st & cypress) in the mid 80's. I was one of 3 black people in my entire 6th grade class at Dobbs.

I spent 10 years of my life at 87th and Blue ridge. I thought it was a good neighboorhood. But, it started going downhill and we had to pack it up and move to Lees Summit.

I know, bad joke.... it's like when people here call downtown dangerous. I wasn't close to being in the minority there, yet there was still a pretty big difference from the Northland... and not so much black/white, but reports at Ervin of kids getting their arms broken while being thrown into lockers and what not, which was unheard of in the PH district at the time (well, middle school, anyway). I started kindergarten at Dobbs in '85.... I think the principal was Virginia Brown? She was roughly 174 years old.

That's how my parents viewed it, and I've since met several people from way back then who said they did the same... most of them either went north or to Lee's Summit.

Yeah, I know where you lived... I lived right around the corner from you (90th & Laurel down by Elm). Neighborhood had one other black kid in it now it's gone to shit really quick.
