One stat that is simultaneously "wow, Veach!" and "c'mon, Veach"

Heard this on the Time's Ours podcast.

The two biggest cap hits at the LB for the 2022 Chiefs are:
  1. Anthony Hitchens
  2. Jermaine Carter
Truly an impressive display of epically screwing up LB free agents while absolutely crushing it in the draft.

Another factoid from the podcast: the Chiefs have drafted 28 players since 2019. 24 of them (including Niang on PUP) are on the formal roster, 2 of them (Nazeeh and Powell) are on the PS, and only two: Darwin and BoPete are no longer with the team. So Veach can fill a damn roster.

However, correct me if I'm wrong, though: he has yet to draft a Pro Bowler. (Creed at the very least deserved it, but the fact remains.)

But, it seems like all of our backs have this issue, so hopefully that stat changes this year with RoJo and Pacheco in the mix.

Wonder how short of a leash Clyde will have this year if he struggles to produce. Especially if Pacheco plays well
CEH has no vision, runs like he is running in wet cement, and is too weak to get hit and keep upright.

He's just not very good. I've been waiting for him to prove me wrong for a long time and I'm still waiting. It really hurts when you see guys like D'Andre Swift, Jonathan Taylor, AJ Dillon who are so good. Heck even guys like Cam Akers, JK Dobbins and Antonio Gibson would be better. They just whiffed on the pick. It happens.

Chris, for the most part, has earned his money. Frank's contract has been an albatross. Luckily, it will be gone after this season. And with the plethora of draft picks the Chiefs have, they will continue to get younger and cheaper on the D-Line next year. They will soon be one of the least expensive.

The Chiefs did not have a better defense than Denver last year, unless by "better" you mean "allowed more points and yards".

advanced metrics bozo. You realize teams had to do nothing special to outscore Denver's pop gun offense right?

This isn't the dig you think it is.

Just means we have a strong OL and weak RBs, along with a DL that isn't a great pass rushing group but a good blitzing scheme (we had one of the higher pressure rates in the league, IIRC).

We've known RB and DL are weaknesses.

If you want a laugh, take a look at the Raiders 1st round draft picks recently.

Since 2016, they've taken Karl Joseph, Gareon Conley, Kolton Miller, Clelin Ferrell, Josh Jacobs, Johnathan Abram, Henry Ruggs, Damon Arnette, and Alex Leatherwood.

Pretty damn impressive, Veach!

KC was 7th in DVOA last year. Denver was 15th.

Yes, overall KC was better. I was responding to a comment specifically about defense.

Interesting stat.
That sounds natural. Wonder if the #2 YBC team might also closely correlate to #31 YAC?

Clark will still count 9+ million in dead cap space next year. Saves us 19 million. His total bill next year is over 28 million going in.
