What is the single biggest reason Chiefs have not won the SB

Just out of curiosity in Chiefsplanet opinion.

QB is the long term answer but if Marty would have been smart and started Gannon we would have won. That team had championship written a over it.

I think it all falls on Hunt family's shoulders. They're the only constant though out all of this. I don't think that family (or Clark) wants to draft a franchise QB. They don't want to have to pay anyone a $100M contract should that draft pick pan out and become and elite QB in the league. Clark wouldn't want to give that person a 2nd contract.

I truly believe that. They're cheap. It's the same reason why the Chiefs have NEVER landed a top tier FA. If they've signed a name, it's either a bargain deal on a tier 2 or 3 free agent or the player has passed his prime (Surtain, Law).

They continue the disregard the most important position in the game. It's that simple.

Kansas City Cheaps
Ty Law gave us two gifts in Indianapolis. Two monster gifts and we couldn't execute from 5 yards out. I'm gonna say coaching. We seem to never have a good balance.

Apparently not.

That entire offense was based around Priest Holmes.

The Chiefs entire passing game was based on playaction fakes from the threat of Priest Holmes.

If the threat of the running game was taken away, or if the Chiefs were down big and they couldn't run, the Chiefs struggled to throw the ball.

The Hunt family should have been an option but that's the intangible factor.

The tangible one is the lack of a franchise QB..

Priest Holmes was a great running back.

Let me say that again. Priest Holmes was a GREAT running back.

However, Trent Green DID throw for over 4000 yards in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Priest Holmes played just 8 games in 2004 and just 7 games in 2005, so I think you're overstating it just a bit.

Now if you want to say Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson, you may have a point. But give Vermeil and Trent Green a little credit for making their offense work damn well with two different running backs.

Not totally. If you took away Priest and Tony Gonzalez the Chiefs were very beatable.

OK, so now the theory is that if you took away Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez, the Chiefs offense would have sucked, and therefore Dick Vermeil and Trent Green were a couple of stiffs who deserve no credit at all, and they should get on their worthless knees and thank God for letting their worthless asses be associated with the awesomeness of Holmes, LJ and TG.

Got it.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Because Johnnie Morton, Eddie Kennison and Marc Boerigter were guys you could count on with regularity.
