Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

That's not really it. Two things are happening now that didn't before.

1. Smith is more comfortable and improved in this yr 4 scheme.
2. The players around him aren't screwing up at critical moments.

So to clarify, you are no longer a Chiefs fan, and no longer care what happens with them? all because of Smith?

This is what happens when you want to speak in absolutes and be able to quantify what is inherently unquantifiable.
right. This is all I was alluding to. I think Aikman and Elway were pretty good, but not vastly superior or beyond reproach. Fans just need some QBs to prop of and fantasize as "amazing HOFers."

They were and are still overrated.

The thing that confuses me is when I post aikman and elway's stats to show how similar (or even worse) than they are to Smith's, you get a select few who get all dramatic as if I'm comparing him to Rodgers, Peyton, or Montana. There are a gluttony of QB's that have won a SB playing far worse football than Smith but the only rhetoric I hear from clay and his fellow imbeciles is how he isn't on the level of Rodgers as if that is what is holding us back.

Bunch of damn fools!

Clay, Since you went thru the trouble, create a chart of elway and aikmans stats and put them adjacent to Smith's so we can see if Alex is really a fraud like you claim

Clay you forgot to post his W-L record. You know, that thing that we use to determine which teams advance to the playoffs.

Good job Tigeruppercut. Clay refuses to answer your. That's because he knows that he can't answer you with any amount of credibility. He's wrong.

This could quite possibly be a career defining year for Alex.

The team needs him to step up to compensate for the little dropoff we might have on defense and it seems Alex is responding to the situation.

Today is a huge test for him, as will next week. These are 2 top 5 defenses and we will need Alex to be on his A game to have a chance at winning.

It's gonna be fun to see how well Alex plays today.

The odds might be against us but as you said, I want to see this offense keep it competitive in the event our defense gets gashed.

They are different types of QBs that played in different offensive schemes but Green was in that same offense for most of his entire career. He never had to go through the coordinator, head coach carousel that Smith has had to endure.

Greens first three years with the Chiefs 11,512 yards 67 TD 49 INT
Smiths first three years with the Chiefs 10,064 yards 61 TD 20 INT

Oh yeah Green was such a better QB than Smith. He did so much more while being in the most prolific offense that the NFL has probably ever seen.

Green was one of the reasons it was "the most prolific offense the NFL has ever seen".

From 2002-2005 Green threw for over 16k yards and 94 TD's with about an 8 yard/pass average. He was an actual QB who made QB throws, not a game manager. And Green never won a playoff game because we had arguably the worst defense the NFL has ever seen.

This thread turned out exactly like I thought it would... just awful

The only thing I intend to add to it is this... as much as I hated the 90s Cowboys, the Aikman hate in here is a bit much. As Milkman correctly pointed out, Aikman threw one of the best looking, most catchable footballs of all time

He could make every deep throw with accuracy AND touch

With his career 61% completion percentage and 199 yards/game?? really???
Have you looked at Montana and Young's highlights and numbers?
Outside of a handful the QB competition in that decade was absolutely god awful.
