I wouldn't. It's the same as Starbucks. $9.19 for one meal. No fast-food meal deserves a tip.

If I am not getting a table service meal, they don't get a tip.

If they make more than minimum wage I generally don't tip unless someone does something that exceeds expectations (I used to be a server so I'm more generous than I should be)... the only exception off the top of my head being pizza delivery. I've seen tip jars at carryout counters, and I'm a little curious to know if they make minimum wage... at some places it seems to be a dedicated job, but at other places I've seen someone put together a carryout order while also serving tables.

In general though, there's a reason why you make $8/hour working at Chipotle. Doing your job, and even doing it well, doesn't warrant a 'bonus'. You get paid to do your job well, you get a bonus if you're exceptional. I think it's funny when people pay $100 for a haircut or tip them $20. I'm not cheap, I'm just much more inclined to be generous to people I know.

I'm going to start carrying little pieces of paper in my pocket with the note "Here's a tip, get a better paying job" to drop in these tip jars.

It wasn't a passive-aggressive shot at him by any means, but like I said, there's a reason that it's an $8/hr job. And when you can't even get the bangs right... okay, I'll stop.

But, I'd like to note, I routinely tip at least 20% at restaurants, if not more for good service. Granted, I have my reasons... I was a server in high school and college, and even good tips on a weeknight might not average to much more than $10/hour.... I'm sure people would find that unnecessary.

I was seriously considering a "401K" jar and putting it on my counter, promising that everything put in it would go to my 401k plan.

Considering my customers are my employer, don't you think they should have to kick in for my retirement?

Yeah my wife waits tables and does just fine. She'd probably hand you a piece of paper that said, "Here's a tip, lifes too short to be an asshole"

No way I tip a drive thru. I do tip at sit downs, and their tip is based on the level of service. My wife and I ate at a local mexican place today. The waitress barely understood english, she got the order wrong, let our drinks run dry, and never once cam back to check on us. And no, the place was not that busy. When we got done eating, I had to go up front for a to go box and the bill. If anyone of you pays the 15% in that case, you are nuts. She did not deserve it. I had 42 cents in my pocket. That was all she got. Had she even made an effort, I would have been happy to tip 15%.

That's funny. I told my wife I should have left my waitress a piece of paper saying here's a tip. Learn better english, and check bak on your customers once in a while.
