In both cases, you're getting a rental that won't be here when the team is competing for a championship - I'd rather have the one that will be a better player and doesn't cost a draft pick.
Think of Vrabel more like a inexpensive reliable player that will add to depth. He's not the savior. Just a role player. He doesn't have a big contract. He may start but I'm sure he will rotate with someone.

I guess it's better to trade for a guy and force him to be somewhere he doesn't want to be?
How do you know he doesn't want to be here?

So, which is it?

People are complaining that we haven't spent any of the $57M we have available, now were talking about saving money?

Again, I'm not advocating signing Lewis.

But if you're giving me a choice between signing Lewis, or trading for Vrabel, and those are my only two choices - give me the better player everytime.

Some of you guys are acting like Vrabel is the second coming of Vince Lombardi in the leadership department.

God forbid that we cultivate our own leaders.
Pioli will truly value the veteran leadership that you do have, especially Tony. But Vrable if not the second coming, has indeed been a strong leader on team team crawling with leadership. And of course you will develop your own leaders. But why would you objest to his bringing in one of his PROVEN guys to assit in the transition nand to help in that process? .

I think a lot of the reponse talking to his leadership is to the high panic factor in the early stages of this thread.

For a modest pick, and a modest salary for a one year commitment (if he makes the team of course) it isn't really a big deal.

Stop (suggests the dreaded Pats fan) kicking and screaming and embrace the change. Or at least give Pioli a couple week honeymoon.

Cheers, bostonTim

I don't think Ray Lewis fits the Pioli Profile(big, smart, etc...)

If you gave me the choice between an overpriced Lewis and Vrabel, I'd take Vrabel every time. This is considering the pick we traded is a 5, 6 or 7.

Now if we were running the 4-3 I might agree but in the 3-4 LB's are very important.

I don't think anyone should go off of stats of previous drafts to determine what player they think is worth taking. Look at each player individually as I hope our scouts and front office are doing.

Like I said I don't care who we take as long as they live up to where we drafted them at. I just don't think any player outside of the obvious like Kicker and Center should be eliminated from being a possible top 5 pick just because the position they play. It should never be about the position they play but about the impact they can have on the team in my opinion but I do see where you are coming from.

I don't know why you think that Vrabel would refuse to come.

I'm just saying that Ray Lewis's ego would not allow him to come to a team like the Chiefs.

They are only more valuable in the 3-4 because the OLBs are the DE's IE pass rushers and I just said a pass rusher is worth the pick so I did cover that.

This is reductive.

I was blowing a gasket for many reasons

#1 was the fact that we are going to be marginalizing Dorsey by moving to a 3-4
#2 was the fact that we are going to give up a draft pick for a broke dick linebacker.

I understand that, I'm saying cassel's actually played a down in the NFL, so his cost should be more than any Draftee. I also don't think his risk is any different than say Sanchez specifically. Finally, his reward is the same, for arguemental purposes, as anyone in the draft. He makes the throws, right? He plays in a pro offensive, right? He's seen the speed at this level, right? I don't see how we KNOW stafford or sanchez are shoe ins for success at the next level.

- Just FYI - I'm only debating the subject for the purpose of debating all the scenerios and to learn more about other's opinions. I personally think it's Stafford or Curry at #3 (if they're both gone, IDK what I think) and if we don't get stafford we pick a QB with 2 or 3 and maybe even another on the second day. Croyle, thigpen, a vet (maybe) and two rookies to start camp? why not?
