Charles will get the ball more...count on it

As the season progresses Charles will get the ball more. A lot of people calling in on the radio last night were bitching that he didn't carry more.

One thing people tend to forget about JC, as awesome as he is, he has a tendancy to fumble. TJ does not. Had the rain not come I think you would have seen JC carry the rock more. But with rain pouring down and a sloppy, sloppy field + a 2 TD lead I think Weis felt TJ was the better option. Not because he would bust the big plays but because there is less chance of a fumble and turnover in those conditions.

We went into a shell for the 2nd hallf because of the rain and having a lead. Maybe too much of a shell. But I think the weather and the score and JC's tendancy to let go of the ball may have had something to do with it.

Also it wa game one. We don't want Charles mangled after 1 or 2 games.

Just a thought.

He had 100 yards of offense with the one catch and a TD. Less carries to do it=good. I swear some people on this board want to push his load to the point of injury or at best the point of diminishing returns. We beat what most called the prohibitive favorite in the division despite having some things to iron out. If Charles had "got his" and ran for 175 and two TDs while we lost 35-14 would that make some of you guys happier?

I honestly dont get why JC isn't used more. The guy is another Chris Johnson. Consider these stats: first RB to ever in the history of the nfl to go over a 1000 yards on less than 200 carries, 5.9 yds per rush, I believe they had a graphic on TV that was the 3rd highest avg/carry since 1970. Out performed Jones in preseason, yet he still doesnt start. Hes the same size and Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson's yards per carry last year--5.6. As great as the win was last night, we were a short TD pass away from OT. We should of put this team away and we almost let them comeback to tie it and send it into overtime. People are talking about next year, this division can be won this year. Jamaal Charles is a flat out freak like CJ, yet Haley and co. almost went into Jet-Shotty jr conservative mode, running Jones up the gut, and let the Chargers back in the game. At least START your best players. Maybe a 2/3, 1/3 split with Jones, but not equal. Yeah Charles only averaged over 8 yards a touch last night.

As long as they don't keep running those stretch handoffs right into opponents.

I have a feeling they didn't give it to Charles as much as we would have liked last night due to them being afraid of Charles fumbling. Whatever it was, the playcalling has got to improve over that. The crowd wasn't the only thing that seemed like it came from the past. That playcalling was shades of Jimmy Raye...

Charles was simply a victim of circumstance last night. Raining like hell and he fumbles more than you would like, and KC had a lead. End of story.

I can't argue with it either even though I would like to see more JC.

so you want to use up Charles's career getting the chiefs to 7 wins instead of waiting another year and using him to win a playoff game?

I don't think anyone really means that, but great backs get the ball period. They cant so much choose when their team is gonna suck and say hey,Ill be better next year when the team is ready for me.I don't wanna see him get beat to death either but he has to touch the ball more no doubt.

Sustain a couple more drives, and up that team total to, say, 65, and that would bring him up to 15 touches for the game, which is I'd say the lower end of where you'd want him to be (15-20).
This was exactly my thought. We didn't really have that many offensive plays last night, and in the 2nd half they may have been worried about Charles fumbling as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 20 touches against Cleveland is our offense is clicking.

On a side note, given the strategy of running Jones up the gut in the 2nd half, I actually wouldn't have minded seeing what Battle could do. Dude had a really nice preseason and can really run between the tackles.

I think this team is going to play a lot like the 2001 patriots, perhaps not in results but in how they approach a game.

They will have a bend but don't break defense, play to protect the ball on offense, and not put too much on the qb's plate.

Of course, Weiss and Crennel were the coordinators for that 2001 Pats team.

i think the chiefs would be very wise to limit the touched by Charles until the team around him is good enough to make it really valuable.

split carries between Jones and charles this year and then let the beast run wild next year when it can really count. I know it's hard for fans to hear but winning this year is not THE important thing. In fact if you want a Quarterback then burning up charles for a few more victories is not a good thing.

I know what you mean.I just think when you draft a back like him, good or bad as a team he has to touch the ball as much as possible within reason.I'd like to see a 65/35 with him and TJ,and they can always sneak Battle in here and there.I mean you can hear the crowd get excited when the kid gets the ball, and even if he don't rip one everytime, everyone thinks he might.I just don't see sitting on talent like that for hopes of being better next year.
